RE: FCC Net Neutrality Insanity Continues

Basically... "We want states to regulate municipal broadband and prevent cities from creating their own ISPs.... but we don't want states to regulate us." am I understanding this correctly? Seems like we want our cake, eat it, and prevent the poors from ever getting flour to make their own cake.

It's also inside the inner loop. So you are in walking distance to a lot of great restaurants and attractions.

@Joy This is such a great thing! Linux is becoming so common place now having a community of people who are in a similar situation as you is great.

RE: FCC Vote This Week
It will most likely be a 3-2 vote in favor of revoking the net neutrality rules. So we've got that to look forward to.

RE: CAPLOCK is on.
You could always disable CAPs with a registry key. You could even deploy it out via GPO.

RE: Weekend Plans
Apple picking weekend. Every Indigenous Peoples' Day weekend my family (I have a huge family) gets together to pick apples and press them for apple cider. We've been doing it since I was in high school. Really fun tradition.

Are these crowds willing to cancel their Internet to further support the net neutrality protest?
How could they? The internet is an essential service it would be incredibly difficult living, working, and surviving in modern society without access to the internet.
I get that but how exactly is standing in front of the stores like Verizon is going to make any difference? Hell anybody can just stand outside and start shouting with signs.
Picketing is never actually for the group doing the picketing it's more to inform the general public of those issues that concern the group doing the protesting...

I am really behind today.
I got into work early so I could follow along. The couple announcements last week made it sound like today was something you wouldn't want to miss. So far it hasn't disappointed.

Change "Networking" to "Deploying WPA2-Enterprise SSID" and more people might be interested.
That's a really good topic for an SMB!

Nvidia may be trying to prevent GeForce GPUs from being used in data centers!
Nvidia: we don't like money.
I get that they think they'll sell more of their more expensive products designed to be used in a data center, but that doesn't mean customers are automatically going to have the extra money to spend.
I'm just imagining AMD in the corner twiddling their thumbs as the money starts the roll in.

Here's to hoping flights aren't delayed (and luggage not lost) ... i have 2 plane changes to get to Rochester by 4:30 on Wednesday.
Ouch! I've only got 1 plane change, but @scottalanmiller swears that BWI (Baltimore/DC) is not a bad airport to switch planes.... we'll see. Can't be any worse than Atlanta's airport (but we do have some new art installations to look at while you walk 4 miles to the terminal, so there's that.)
It's not a bad airport. I really hate Atlanta anything less than an hour layover and you are in a sprint lol.
I've never had a plane change in ATL, but I always go 2 hours early so I can sit and drink tasty beers before getting on the plane. There is a bar every 6 feet in ATL airport, it's nice. I'll be at BWI for about an hour, so I hope I have time to relax between planes.
Don't you live outside of Atlanta? That is one of the worst airports we had a 30 minute layover and were literally sprinting to get to the next gate. My wife was 6 months pregnant at the time it was probably an amusing sight.
Delta frequently does a 41 minute layover there and it is the cheapest flight. I have done that sprint thing 3 times lol.
Does the price change drastically if you got your connecting flight a bit later? I always try to look at the layover time to be sure I don't have to run.
Yeah, but it really depends. I would rather do a 41 minute layover over a 3-4 hour layover in ATL any day of the week.
True. I find 1-1/2 hours is kinda the sweet spot. Plenty of time for a leisurely walk, a snack, and a pint.
@MarigabyFrias had 2.5 hours and even being on time they needed 3.5 hours to get her to her gate at IAH this week!
That sounds like a nightmare. And in an airport named after a Bush no less.
Did they also fly her to the wrong country?
Almost, lol. It was Texas.
So... Yea...

Dell considering returning public, other options as they look to raise capital... https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-01-26/dell-technologies-is-said-to-be-considering-ipo-other-options
One of the things I like about Dell is the fact that they are a private company, therefore don't have the pressures to do things that may not be the best decision for consumers in order to please shareholders. Will be watching this play out and see what changes this might bring.
That seems like an insanely bad move.
Much of Dell's recent acquisitions and success can be attributed to Michael Dell taking it private again. This really does seem like a terrible move.

Why is the choice to go physical or virtual dependant on NTGs involvement?
Surely you'd want to go virtual yourself no?
Because something like powering on the VM would be too much for them. Virtualization would obviously be the preferred method, but if they don't want to have ongoing IT support, I can't keep helping them power on a VM, etc all the time. Thus why if they can't get NTG's ongoing support, they have to be able to do it themselves, ie going physical.
Almost every virtualization solution allows you to start the VM when the server starts... it would be as simple as hitting the button to turn on the server.
I am not sure if you can set this in ESXi Free. I don't remember having it when I was using the Free but I can't confirm that.
Why limit yourself with ESXi free? Hyper-V has more features in the free platform without any of the restrictions.
