    • Switch for harsh environment ...

Does anyone have recommendation on a good network switch to use that will be located in a harsh environment. The location will be extremely dusty and very hot especially during summer months. Plan to put in a NEMA enclosure that will have little air flow inside.

Minimum of 12 RJ45 ports with POE capability and 1 SFP port for link back to server room but 16 or 24 RJ45 POE would be better for expected future needs.

      Thanks.

    • SMB share from RHEL access issues ...

We're installing an inventory management system and the vendor is using a RHEL server. They have installed a Samba share to put client installation files to install on windows machines.

I'm not having any issues on a Windows 7 machine but the Windows 10 machines are not able to see the share. It does not allow access. I'm thinking this is some kind of SMB version issue but I'm not familiar with Samba shares from Linux so not 100% sure. I did enable SMB v1 on the windows 10 clients thinking that would be necessary but that did not have any effect.

Does anyone know of anything I could check on the Windows clients so that I can see the share?

      Thanks

    • SIP Intercom for noisy environment ...

We're looking at adding an intercom solution to facilitate conversation between our operators on one side and on the other side truck drivers that are waiting on a truck scale while product is being loaded. I can work with a direct point to point intercom or we do have a FreePBX phone system and the operations room already has a phone in that location that could be used for that side of the link.

The concern I have though is that the speaker/microphone on the truck scale side will be in a fairly noisy environment since even idling those trucks generate a fair amount of noise. The proposed mounting position for the equipment on the truck scale will be a good 3-4 feet from the driver as they are sitting in the cab of their trucks and I'm concerned that may be too far away for them to hear or for the microphone to pick up what they are saying.

Has anyone worked with a vendor that makes an intercom speaker/microphone solution that would work well in a noisy environment such as this? I would prefer a SIP solution but would consider other if that's what is needed.

    • Fanvil transfer to voicemail using dsskey ...

I've been playing with a fanvil phone and the only thing I can't seem to make work like I want is transfer to voicemail with the dsskey.

On our system the transfer to voicemail code is #<ext>. This seems to be working fine if I directly key in the extension. However, what I'd like to do is be able to in place of dialing the extension, is be able to hit the dsskey of the extension instead. So #<hitDSSkey>. When I do it this way though I simply get a straight blind transfer to the extension but not direct to voicemail.

Here is the configuration of the key on the phone :

      b5fbc953-b5f4-4467-b6a5-bfb6349b649d-image.png

The fourth column (BLF/BXFER) I thought maybe I could change this to BLF/DTMF but that didn't seem to have any affect.

I know Fanvil's are kind of new but has anyone who has tried one know how to program the transfer to voicemail on the dsskey's?

      Thanks

    • Email Signature management

Has anyone used a good system for managing the look of email signatures?

We use o365 for email with a mix of users on the web app and the local outlook client install. We've had a standardized signature for a while now but it was just something we taught users how to do for themselves. The bosses are wanting to have a solution where it can be centrally managed now.

I found this from just googling but don't know if it is any good :

    • RE: What is this Win 10 Taskbar Icon ?

@travisdh1 You are exactly right. I didn't even think of that. I meant to turn that off but instead of turning off I had selected Show Icon Only, so it removed the text I was used to seeing but left the icon.

      Thanks.

    • SIP Extension for Maintenance Staff in Noisy Environment

I'm wanting to improve the ability for our mtc staff to talk on phone with vendor(s) support while they are on a noisy plant floor. Our facility is in a cell deadspot. Coverage outside is spotty at best and once inside is essentially impossible to use.

Ideally what I would want is some effective noise cancelling headphones, probably with a boom mic that can either be a fully functioning SIP extension off of FreePBX or at least be connected to a device that is itself the extension.

Right now I'm thinking my best bet is to find something that can connect with WiFi and have Linphone installed on it for the extension. Then use something like this for the headphones

I have a yealink W56 for them now and that does have a standard audio jack so I could get a set of corded headphones, but I'm not excited about a corded solution since they could be using it near machinery with moving parts.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had a similar situation and what you may have done to address.

    • Skyetel Acquired ...

I saw a notice that Skyetel sent me that they had been acquired. I wasn't familiar with the company that acquired them which they named as HFA group which I had not heard of before. My google foo has not turned up any information on who these folks are.

Is anyone familiar with them? Is anyone using Skyetel concerned about the acquisition and what it's potential impact on Skyetel could be?

      Per the email

In the coming months, all of HFA’s products, services, and brands will be consolidated into Skyetel ...

Does anyone know what this may entail?

@scottalanmiller said in Can the target of a One Drive link be changed ?:

@BraswellJay I must be confused. Don't you just edit the file itself, it should be a text file containing the link.

That's what I want to be able to edit. Unless I'm missing something you can't edit the url link file directly in the onedrive portal. If you try to edit from the portal you're taken to editing the target of the link and not the link itself.

I can download the link file and edit it and reupload. I just thought there would be a way to accomplish that directly from the portal without having to download, edit, and reupload, but maybe not.

Oh, no, you definitely have to download it and edit it. OneDrive doesn't give you a generic desktop to edit files from. It's just a storage solution itself. I don't know any platform like that that has built in editors to modify the files that are in the storage except for NextCloud. And it's always super limited because there are challenges to that.

Ok, thanks. That answers my questions then.

    • What determines the interface that SIP RTP streams over ...

We recently updated to new WAN interfaces at two of our locations. We use @Skyetel SIP trunks at both sites. From the Skyetel portal, I added the IP addresses of the new interfaces to the appropriate IP groups, and the health in the Skyetel portal is showing ok for both.

I disabled the old WAN port at location 1 and all SIP trunks continued to work as before with no issues.

I disabled the old WAN port at location 2 and SIP is not working. The calls are completing, both inbound and outbound, but there is no audio from either direction. I re-enabled the old WAN port and call audio immediately resumed.

My takeaway from that is that the SIP messages are correctly using the new interface, but the RTP streams are not. They seem to still be using the old interface. Is there a setting in either Skyetel or FreePBX that sets what interface the RTP streams use? I always thought that they would use the same interface that the SIP messages were using and I don't remember having to set anything specific for RTP when these sites were set up other than firewall rules for the associated port range.

      @BraswellJay

I finally figured out what was causing my issue.

In FreePBX under Settings->Asterisk SIP Settings there is a parameter to set the External Address used. I had this still set to the public IP of the original interface. Once I changed that parameter to the public IP of the new interface then all started to work over the new interface as expected.
