@JaredBusch True. Never thought of it that way.... I do it that way on my Fedora boxes and never really worried about it.

RE: user files
@AshKetchum If I need to copy files from a user, I just browse to their machine and copy. I just go to
"\nameofpc\c$" and copy files. The users won't have a clue. I do this all the time when I am migrating users to new workstations. There should be 2 backslash before the pc name. Not sure why its not showing up correctly here. -
RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@coliver The hosts are HP DL380 G9 (identical specs) and I don't foresee any issues. They have been running for about 5 years now.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@JaredBusch I was going to export the VMs and reload the new OS. I may just have to do the upgrade. I hardly every do upgrades like that on MS stuff.

RE: user files
You could redirect their My Documents, etc to a shared drive on the server. They would still "think" they are saving locally but the files would actually be on the server.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@scottalanmiller Yes, I know.... Waiting on permission to upgrade. Most of the VMs are 2012 R2 also with the exception of 2 that are on 2016. Need to export all of them and re-load the hosts with HV 2019 but need approval to do so. I don't own the servers.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@Grey Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 is the host (no gui).

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
SR-IOV issue got me again. Built a new VM a couple weeks ago and for the past 2 days it has been losing network connectivity. I totally forgot to check it. Host is running 2012 R2. I thought MS fixed this a long time ago, but I still had to disable it.

RE: Router/firewall recommendations for small branch office
I've deployed Sophos UTM and XG in a few places and it works as advertised. Nothing spectacular. Firewall is "weird" IMO on how the rules get set up. The main reason was for the web filtering. If I could replace that functionality with FOSS I definitely would. I usually install Ubiquiti ERL (residential and business) where no filtering is required and have had excellent results. I have not used a USG or equivalent.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@siringo you should see how we drive in Texas... One of our toll roads is 85 mph / 137 kph (posted) and it is nothing to roll 90 to 95.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@JaredBusch It is fixed. They (Microsoft) had to remove the link between 2 accounts. It works properly now. I had to re-create the "work" account. It got screwed up from an O365 subscription according to MS Support.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Stuck in a loop trying to log into Microsoft VLSC. I sign in with my email and it tells me to use another email that is linked. Try using that one and it says it doesn't exist. It TOLD me which email was linked. Oh, and the 'personal' or 'work' logins are ridiculous.....

RE: Show Active Users in NextCloud
Mine is on 18.0.5 via the stable channel and shows there is an update to 18.0.6

RE: RAID5 SSD Performance Expectations
I was looking at some specs on one of my machines and decided to look at the difference for a SSD and spinner. Pretty interesting... The IOPS difference is more than I would have guessed.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@Dashrender They have 3/1 from a wireless provider. It is not the greatest but there aren't any options other than satellite and that is worse IMO.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
My mom actually asked me about their phone service. They like having the landline but the cost is ridiculous. I believe it was $74/mo last time I looked. I could port their number to a voip provider for a lot less.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@JaredBusch Yes, everyone has a cell. My thoughts were if I am going to set it up, it may as well get used. My parents still have a house phone as cell service isn't great.
One reason for me was to have an IP phone in my shop as well as the house. I have this now as an "intercom" of sorts. I can get called from the house and get my cheap Grandstream phone dirty and not care.
Definitely not a "must have". Figured if I set up a new lab instance in Vultr, I may as well actually use it.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Trying Amazon Coretto as a replacement for Java. One of our software vendors is pushing it rather than just licensing Java. They knew it was coming for a while but this is their "fix".

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@Dashrender Yes, the phones add up quick. That is what has been preventing me from doing this for a while.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Looking at installing FreePBX in Vultr for some testing. I had a local install in my lab but never connected any trunks to it. May even use the server after it is all set up for "production" for my family.
