I have an older copy of Pinnacle but have never used it. He does have iMovie on a Mac Mini. That will probably be fine to start.

OT - Camera for creating YouTube, etc. videosposted in Water Closet
My son (14) is interested in making and editing videos like the ones he subscribes to on YouTube. He is wanting to learn the editing and capture of audio and video. I have a few USB webcams but do not feel they are sufficient to "learn" with. For those of you that do this type of thing - any recommendations on camera and/or camera with mic? If he wants to learn, I want to have whats necessary.

I have to have caffeine in the mornings or I get a headache. Haven't been able to wean myself off of it.

RE: Hypervisor choiceposted in IT Discussion
Actually started with the free 5Nine and then purchased a license. It expired though it still shows on my account.
It was worth the $$ to have the full function. Probably won't purchase again. Hyper-V manager works fine IMO. -

How do you like the Sophos UTM? I was thinking about trying it out

A few of my clients use it. Works great. It's at the top of the list as far as UTMs go IMO. Miles ahead of SonicWall. For an all-in-one solution it fits the bill. I normally just use my ERL but can switch to the VM for testing if need be.

@scottalanmiller I will check that out this evening.

RE: Nextcloud Questionsposted in IT Discussion
@scottalanmiller I'll have to physically go there. Not far at all. I will get remote access though if I am going to maintain the install.

RE: Nextcloud Questionsposted in IT Discussion
@scottalanmiller I have no access to the server to patch and update. It was supposed to be a "test" to find out if they would use it or not. Apparently they love it and filled up the storage and are wanting more. Because it will be production, I want it to be done properly.
All my Ubuntu VMs are current with updates and patches.

I think I remember trying to move it myself on a test install and having issues, even after changing the config file. Might want to roll a new server and migrate.
I had the same issue. It's very frustrating to say the least.

RE: Nextcloud Questionsposted in IT Discussion
I thought about making a new VM using Fedora 25 as the one @scottalanmiller provided the group works so well. I'm just afraid I won't be able to successfully migrate the data.

That's great that they are utilizing it so much. I think you've mentioned that this is a VM? Just add another virtual drive to the machine and migrate like normal. If it's all on an LVM, this is easy.
Yes, it is a VM in Hyper-V. Problem is that the data is in /var/www/html/nextcloud/data. I think it would be easiest to add another vdisk and move the data but I've had issues with that in the past. Seems like the install breaks every time and cannot seem to recover it.

RE: Nextcloud Questionsposted in IT Discussion
@travisdh1 I always make sure it is secure. I am referring to storing large amounts of data inside a directory that Apache uses as well.

Normally I would just migrate to a new block device, but it depends on what your needs are.
This was supposed to be a "demo" but they used it for production and filled it quickly once they realized how great it works. Now I need to get them more space. Trying to determine the best path forward.

RE: Nextcloud Questionsposted in IT Discussion
@scottalanmiller When the VM was first loaded, 16.04 was current.

RE: Nextcloud Questionsposted in IT Discussion
@travisdh1 I am not thinking in a security sense - more of a performance factor.

Nextcloud Questionsposted in IT Discussion
Hello all,
At what point (in terms of size) would you store your Nextcloud data in /data vs. /var/www/html/nextcloud/data ? I am sure there are a difference of opinion on this. Lets say.... between 2Tb and 4Tb.Second - If you have an install (VM) that has been filled ( 127 Gb Hyper-V in Ubuntu Server 16.04) and no free space do you:
1- Expand the volume to increase space
2- Migrate to a new server with a larger storage allocation
3- Combination of the above 2? New server VM with a separate data vdisk for nextcloud data(MOD-Edit: Tags)

I would have to say they are pretty flexible but I do not take advantage of it.

@scottalanmiller Someone has them convinced that on-prem is better. I've never had an in-depth discussion about it. I'll have to look and see how many accounts they have.
