@Dashrender said in How much RAM for this VM?:

why does the consumed have those dips?

I'd say this was invoked by the apps running on it. This VM is used for analytics and reporting, it's got Visual Studio, Power Bi and SQL server running on it. The vendor must've been doing some shit on it.

      F33 desktop is now p2v'd.

@scottalanmiller Ubuntu is a surprising choice for you 😉

      Runs ScreenConnect.

      So does Fedora.

Always fail when I do it, there is some trick to it. Happen to know what's needed so that it doesn't just put hashes on the screen for forever?

Is there ever a reason to go with one of the other security policies for centOS?

Depends where you work, usually this is set for government standards for example:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Information_Processing_Standards

So theoretically if you work for the Government agency they will require you to choose certain protocols, and those profiles will make your life easier.

I thought about making a new VM using Fedora 25 as the one @scottalanmiller provided the group works so well. I'm just afraid I won't be able to successfully migrate the data.

It's all just a database and filesystem. I've not done this, but should not be bad.

Would this still be possible if you've chosen to enable encryption? I would assume that your encryption key would be different in a new install. I don't remember reading anywhere about how to migrate data from one install to another if it was encrypted (although maybe I've never read it because it doesn't matter). Has anyone done this? Moved users and data to a new install with encryption turned on?

Doing the migration would decrypt on the source before doing the move. So it should be the same. The key would change or not depending on if you move the key.

Take a look at Windows Disk Management. Maybe the Disk needs to be assigned a drive letter.

I found the process I had used previously. Here it is here. Summarized below.

Make sure the VM in question is shutdown.
From the console xe vm-shutdown uuid=<UUID of Your VM> xe vbd-list vm-uuid=<UUID of Your VM> params=uuid, type xe vbd-destroy uuid=<UUID of Your CD/DVD> Of critical importance do not select Disk, ensure you select the UUID of the cd Repeat step 4 as many times as you have CD's that are unusable. Reboot the VM and add the device again.

So after building a new NFS/SMB vm (and deleting the old one) the new system seems fine.

Something must've got corrupted because of the smartctl errors.
