@WrCombs Yeh. 7zip is really good, opens about 4 dozen types of compressed files and is free.
.rar files are going / have gone by the wayside for the most part. You'll still find a lot of them on Usenet, but not elsewhere for for the most part

      Is 7zip easy to use?

      Incredibly easy.

It's been a few years since I've used Unitrends. We used the software with our own storage. Support was awesome back then. The product worked well.

This sounds super expensive though. There's nothing cheap about those appliances, even when it's "free."

Nothing in that statement is evidence, and if it was it would be self incriminating, so the person isn't compelled to give up that information.

Except he told them that THEY knew what was there. In theory, that statement in a court would mean that the cops could testify as to what evidence was there because he granted as evidence that they knew what the evidence was. Therefore, they are witnesses by his admission. That he gave it up and self incriminated isn't a problem, because he did so voluntarily.

Anything the police claimed they knew was on there because of the suspect's statement would probably be considered hearsay. They don't actually know first hand what's there... Just because the suspect said they know doesn't constitute proof.

Yeah, when renewal time comes, you'll likely have to buy a new appliance meaning it will likely be outside your desired price range.

Quickly looking at the promotion, he might even have to purchase 3+ years of support upfront. That alone would probably cover the cost of buying a better server from xbyte

@scottalanmiller said in [Is Admitting That Someone's Suspicion of Guilt Is Correct Constitute

      In a silly example...

"I did it your honor, I murdered him."

"Okay son, but I can't accept your guilt until you are under oath."

"Oh, I won't admit to it under oath."

"Then I'm afraid you are free to go."

We should work with this example, though a bit different.

Cop: We know you killed Jo
defendant: We both know I did it.

      this is basically what happened,

Cop: You are here because we believe there is CP on your computer
defendant: "we both know what's on there"

that's an admission - because the cop told him first what they thought was on the computer. Of course, what we don't know is the actual conversation before the admission part - I'm assuming hasn't been released.

This is nothing like what happened. They asked for his password and he said "we both know what's on there"

If you need to use a murder, or something else, as an example, here you go:
Cop: "We want to search your house"
Defendant: "We both know what's in there, and it's going to hurt me"

That is not an admission to anything... There could be a really mean dog in there that is literally going to hurt him.

I take the last 2-2.5 weeks off every year. I get 4 weeks and hardly ever use it all during the year so I lump it in at the end of the year since we're always slow from December through February. But, of course, I'm basically always on-call.

You're trying to buy tickets to MCR - What did you expect?

you got me there. i tried 3 different states same result. Ticketmaster sucks.

The new TicketMaster method is effing ridiculous. Why tf would you show me a million tickets and by the time I click on one, the page reloads, and it's already gone. It's a totally random shit show. I've missed out on a few concerts lately because of this piece of shit system. Give me the old method where you reserve my tickets (that are actually available), based on my place in line, and I have 4 minutes to decide if I want them or not...

      Yes - that's what we're talking about here - a $1600 laptop or $1600 anything.
Keep apples to apples and leave oranges out this.
The shit routers that ran DD-WRT were $50+ in the US... same damned cost as a ER-X today.
hell, it's pretty damned hard to find a $50 router at Best Buy today (I won't say impossible, but I don't recall but maybe one open the last time I was there).

ER-X doesn't get you any WIFI. For $128 (MSRP) you can get an ER-X ($59) and a Unifi AP ($69 Wireless-N model).

At BestBuy you can get a TP-Link Wireless-AC router that's been tested to work with DD-WRT for $39.99. I would say it's still very much relevant to power user types on a budget.

About a month ago I was cleaning out my grandparents basement with my dad and one of my uncles that I rarely see because he lives out of state. We came across an ancient desktop PC with a Windows XP sticker on it. My uncle got super revved up when I went to throw it away because "he has a friend who is a dev at MS, and he says that Windows XP is the safest operating system out there because it's so old that hackers don't even target it anymore." He ended up taking it home with him to "setup as a server." Okie dokie then... I couldn't believe it. He didn't want to hear anything I was trying to tell him.

      Once I excluded 70.

70 would be the park command. slots would start at 71. However it can be changed. On our it starts at 9000 as we have way too many extensions.

What @Dashrender wants is to park a call on a person’s extension. Because that is how Mitel does it. He refuses to entertain retraining users to use general parking.

My solution for him was to crest a huge ass parking system. If his extensions are 3 digits, then create parking lot 7000 with 999 slots.

Then he has to make a prefix button for everyone labeled park with **7 as a value. People would be able to hit park, dial the extension, and hit send.

Each extension would have a “my park” button that would pick up theit park.

That is exactly how our old Intertel system did it. My users like the new "Park Call" button better, it was a super easy transition, too. This way, if I call somebody's extension to tell them they have a call, they don't need to know what phone I put them on hold from, they just see that "Line 1" is red and they touch it and go. It's far better for us.

Veeam set up to back up to a Synology RAID 1 NAS with enough storage to meet your recovery point objectives.

Backup file destination should be password protected with read-only access for all accounts but admin and Veeam user.

A pair of NAS devices set up identically could be used to provide an air-gap for the backups.

A small single drive NAS/external enclosure could provide a similar setup.

StarWind Virtual Tape Library set up as a backup destination that can then trickle the backups up to BackBlaze would be one of the least expensive off-site/cloud solutions.

well said! thank you very much.

And doens't mean a damned thing because you never gave any actual detail.

That's your opinion, if Phlipelder is selling me a product. I already start discussing with him the details while the other sellers still asking for questions and doesn't seem to have an idea. I feel most of you guys have an idea but choose to do the "play hard to get" approach. Lol.

If this was anyone working for me, they'd be fired after they perform a full audit of everything they've done to date.

I'm not really sure you know what you are talking about? Usually an audit will compose of requirements > Audit > correction necessary based on last audit. There is no firing in the process. You could be referring to a different thing and it seems i'm on a different page as well.

He's saying that your approach to this is reckless. You're not providing important details of your environment or even wanting the best possible solution. It seems like you're looking for somebody to sell you snake oil. If you worked for him and he discovered your process, you'd be gone.

The people in this thread are asking for specific details because they legitimately want to help you find the best solution. If you want VM snapshots, there's going to be a different best product than if you want to backup databases... It's all relevant, regardless what you may think.

My boss once told me, if i cannot present my project in 1 page. Do not submit it or break it into multiple projects. When i get few questions and still not get any answer i felt i may need to scrap this one. But since 1 idea came up, i could work on the only idea i got. Make sense?

No, it doesn't make sense. Call Unitrends and when they answer the phone, simply say "backup Windows on ESX, with some databases" and they're going to ask you 20 more questions... the same thing we're doing.

Even getting "windows, ESX, and databases" out of you took 50 posts....

So to be the devils advocate here - anything that comes pre-loaded on your OS should be classified as malware if you immediately remove it once the OS is operational.

LibreOffice - malware I don't want it - don't install it. But every time I install nix it's there!

I disagree, I think the problem with Microsoft is that programs that were uninstalled come back after every "feature update."

If I upgrade from Fedora 29 to 30 and didn't have LibreOffice installed, it doesn't randomly come back and pop up all kinds of shit harassing me to use it every time I login.
