    • RE: Simple IT Assets Management Software recommendations.

Snipe-IT would be the best option and yes import works without any issues. I recently setup Snipe-IT and imported our age old excel sheet inventory ( need to work on the formatting a bit to match Snipe-IT format, and for that all i did was to just create one asset and exported that to csv) But if you get the chance, i would say take time and build your database just for the major models, machine types and location and that will help you on the long run.

    • RE: How do you test your website

@Kimberley-Paessler said in How do you test your website:

@DustinB3403 If you (or your customer) are using PRTG, you could use the "cloud ping" and "cloud http" sensors to monitor reachability from around the world. Those sensors will try to reach your website from 5 different AWS data centers, and will report on reachability and response time from each of those data centers. If something goes wrong, you can get an alert, so you know you need to react. The free version of PRTG will let you run 5 cloud http and 5 cloud ping sensors.

If that's not enough, check out services such as https://www.site24x7.com/, which provide similar ongoing monitoring on a larger scale.

If a one-time or manual test is enough, check out services like https://tools.pingdom.com/ or https://www.webpagetest.org/, which are free and don't require any setup on your side, but only provide a snapshot of up/down at the time you try them.

Along with pingdom, we usually use https://geopeeker.com which also gives a snapshot from multiple locations

    • Optimizing help desk team- Tool sets

I've previously posted few requests and would like to consolidate all here, to make an easy decision. My goal is to optimize the help desk team giving some great tools for them to make it easier to do the daily IT management effectively and efficiently. Even though I would like to stick to open source/Linux solutions, not everyone in my team is comfortable to go that route and I don't want to spend a lot of time on that.

Currently, most of the operations below are manual and time-consuming and the link discussions will hopefully help me to identify my final tool sets. Any suggestions, welcome other than these categories on a day to day operation.

    • Weird blinking mouse pointer issue on my work laptop

My HP work laptop has a weird issue since yesterday. My mouse icon shows the busy icon (mouse pointer with a circle) flickering the entire time i work. It is very annoying. Tried a lot of checks, and narrowed it down to only user who does not have admin rights. Seems like some process trying to complete and crashing may be due to lack of full rights. Anyone faced such issues? Google search gave me few results, one of which was to disable HP simple pass service, which i dont have in my laptop. Others was to disable windows error reporting and such but didn't really help. Another thing i just noticed is if i open windows explorer and try to take the window to use it as side by side, as soon as the window goes to smaller size before moving it to side, it just flickers as well!
