Sounds like the German program but without that pesky limitation of scope.

RE: The iPhone's hardware may be closed, but iOS is more open than ever
I don't know if I'd call that opening more of iOS, than redefining some functional elements of the UI.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@stacksofplates Yeah, should have mentioned thats in the equation.
I have experience with LUKS with my current Manjaro install but haven't deployed the others yet.(LLVM, not LUKS - damn lunchtime coffee kick in already) -

Running a Windows 10 update, and planning my laptop's port to Fedora. Researching dm-crypt, lvm-cache and bcache.

@scottalanmiller I work at a government education board, the laptop was one we had in reserve.
Government is buying Chinese products with software to violate their basic security on them instead of American ones without? That makes me very sad
I'm not in the US, and I've read about the NSA Cisco backdoors

@scottalanmiller Buy Lenovo, it seems.

RE: Blind user friendly full disk encryption
@scottalanmiller Me too. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like its an option provided. I had also been recommended to let it encrypt using just the TPM for authorisation (authentication?), but it doesn't have a TPM

Blind user friendly full disk encryption
Does anyone know of a good full disk encryption solution that is screen reader friendly, or gives an audio cue when it needs its passcode entered?
We usually use Bitlocker to close down any laptops that would be leaving the premises, but we have a blind user who uses her laptop for note taking in meetings. If possible, we would like to have the same level of protection for the system and the data on it, but with the ability to let her know when she needs to enter her PIN/password to unlock the disk.
We could give her a USB key, but if for any reason its not accepted we still have the same issue of being able to communicate that to her.

Ummm....as an attacker, why can't I just have a next page fake confirmation which forgets the profile photo (easy to overlook in a hurry) and get the password for google anyway?
Same again for the banking website.
Thats exactly what happens. You'd be surprised at what passes for phishing attacks, and how many people fall for them. I've seen ones that have asked people "for security purpose" to enter all 50 4-digit code card entries, something a bank would obviously never do.
And yet...

Why are the EU only coming after them now? Could it be that the EU is clutching at straws for more money post Brexit?
All things like this take a long time.
Yup, this is the result of an investigation ongoing since 2013 http://www.afr.com/technology/mobiles-and-tablets/apple/apples-tax-secrets-hidden-in-australian-filings-may-have-helped-the-european-commission-20160831-gr5e2x

RE: Apple May Face Epic Tax Bill
@BBigford If only it was that simple. Apple have been based in Cork since 1980, initially as a factory and now as their primary European contact centre. They are a massive employer in the south, with 5,000 in the city as it is and 1,000 more planned.
I don't think they'll be going anywhere too fast, but its definitely going to have repercussions.
(Disclaimer: used to work at the Cork centre)

RE: Sudoing a user in centOS
I always use my own account with sudo.
If anything sudo is safer. You have better accountability as to who made what change in a multi-administrator environment, and you can limit what access a sudo user has (what applications they are able to elevate).

As well as a 20 minute delay, in which some details can be beeped out from what goes out on the internet, the judge has also ruled that once the six-week hearing is over it cannot be kept online forever.
Yeah, good luck with that Judge Streisand.

Welcome @aidan_walsh
Oh, hello
I've been lurking a couple of weeks and finally decided to make an account.
I spent about 5 years working in telephone support for various large companies but always wanted to get hands on behind the scenes, so for the last couple of months I have been interning at a local education board. I mostly play with Linux at home so working in a Windows environment is good experience.

RE: Love for the job
We've got an old industrial plant being torn down beside us as of this morning to put in a new Aldi. Probably got a good few months of this noise to look forward to.
