@Dashrender Didn't try it, becuase nobody faxes us. If people request to send us a fax, I counter them with an alternative suggestion....carrier pigeon, or the United States Postal Service. 🙂

I'll have to give it a shot to see how it reacts. I'd like to just push for @JaredBusch 's suggestion of just sending to email, but I need to run it by the client first.

@scottalanmiller We have a fax machine in our office that is part of an all in one device. I hooked it up to the same device (Grandstream HT701) for a POC and it works, without being garbled. I have a separate DID that comes into the PBX and directly to the extension/ATA device. So far, I haven't had any messy faxes.

Literally have never done that. I dont see that working well.

Oh, it's the worst... It works, but I don't like it. I'd rather just push them to use an online service to completely get away from on prem faxing, but for now, this is what they want.

For those of you using FreePBX or similar, how do you setup your ATA devices to receive incoming faxes so that there is never a busy signal on the line?

I have a client who wants to keep their fax machine because they literally want to send faxes from the fax machine. So, I have an ATA device on the fax machine that converts to SIP for me. Outgoing faxing works perfect, and incoming faxing works, as long as the line is not busy. If the "line" is busy (meaning the ATA device/fax machine is currently receiving another fax) when another fax comes in, I get an alert from my provider telling me the line is busy and the call failed. Any good ways to get around this?

Don't send inbound faxes to the machine. Send them to Email.

I'd really like to, but they currently want them at the fax machine. If there isn't any other way, then I will push them to go to email.

@dafyre No, it is all one unit. That would be awesome though.

Awesome. I found that earlier this morning and was going to give it a try. What plan do you use for your clients? How is the quality of the transcription? Fairly accurate?

2 things: First, Unifi makes some pretty nice looking phones. Android based) Second, Mangolassi displays just fine on this phone.

      That is all...

As far as I know it's just online. I went to the site directly and then it showed up in my tiles online. Definitely a steal at 5 bucks.

Right, we have business essentials which costs 5 bucks a month, and we have Planner. And email, and share point. All for 5 bucks.

    • RE: Microsoft Planner

I started testing it this week and plan to use it next week to give it a good run through. So far, I like it for what it is... A very basic, simple task manager where I can put tasks into "buckets" and assign them if necessary. Free is in my budget as well, so win/win.

Does anyone do voicemail transcription with FreePBX? I have a client who is looking to transcribe their voicemail to text. I know there are some solutions out there, but have no experience with any of them. Any recommendations or comments on this?

      Adding to this:

I've also always point the primary to 127.0.0.1 and secondary to the secondary controller. If no secondary controller, then a public DNS.

I've seen that you can do it via a command, which of course could be scheduled, but I'm always Leary of that with FreePBX.

      sudo -u asterisk /var/lib/asterisk/bin/module_admin upgradeall
      sudo -u asterisk /var/lib/asterisk/bin/module_admin reload

That's the module part. Don't forget the OS, too.

Right. The OS part (at least in FreePBX) can be set for automatic updates via the GUI in System Admin.

So to be clear, right now, you do it manually?
