I was just going to spin up a few items in AWS in a lab scenario to test out the functionality. The timing of this post is perfect. Main takeaway for me is "AWS is for elastic workloads." I'll still spin up some workloads in AWS in a lab capacity to get more familiar with is, but this is good insight, thanks.

Yup, AWS is ideal for learning about AWS itself or for learning about DevOps and elastic workload growth.

DO and Vultr are ideal for normal OS learning.

      Yep, Agreed.

Not to go off topic too much, but in your opinion, where would you put Azure in this picture? Same as AWS, or not nearly as flexible as AWS.

      Ahhh, Pennsyl-tucky.

Whoa!....I've never heard Pennsyl-tucky from anyone that's not from Pennsylvania. Are you from PA?

Born and bred Yinzer relocated to LA. 🙂

Ah nice. I'm on the other side of PA. But no, not an Eagles fan, which made watching the game on Sunday pretty much unbearable.

Haha, I was in the middle of posting NO to GIMP as you were posting. 🙂 That's too complex for our needs. This needs to be wife friendly as well.

I don't find GIMP to be that bad.

It's quite powerful, which is where the problem for most people comes in. I imagine @fuznutz04 would like it after getting acquainted with the interface.

I'm not up to speed on GIMP, but my very non-technical neighbor can rock it.

It's a design tool so us tech types don't tend to grok it, but graphics people do. It's a very good tool.

And the price point is always in my budget.

@fuznutz04 The easiest way to get Netcloud setup is to setup their appliance VM. Go to https://nextcloud.com/install/#instructions-server and select "Appliances" tab. You'll see a link to www.techandme.se who is their official Nextcloud appliance provider. Tech And Me has 2 versions of Nextcloud. One on a 20GB drive and another on a 500GB drive. Either choice you can expand the space allocated.

Great to know. I'll check that out to see if I like the functionality and then go from there. Thanks.

I've used it previously, and even have it installed on one of my Windows boxes right now. It's not bad, and very comparable to Photoshop. I could get used to it probably, I just never committed to it for any length of time to give it chance. One thing that it doesn't do well is photo storage/organization/viewing. For example, with Aperture, I can tag photos by person, location, events, etc. Bringing this back to Nextcloud, does Nextcloud offer this sort of photo organization/sorting/viewing?

I've tried a couple of the popular online photo places, and none of them really fit the need/want that I have. I currently have my entire photo library in Aperture. (the Apple program) I would be happy to move the library somewhere else, especially since Apple killed off Aperture more than a year ago already. However, I haven't found a replacement that fits our needs: A photo organizer/database, with built in "pro" grade photo editing. Aperture fits these requirements, and I've tried a couple others, but they just didn't fit the bill. Maybe I'm too picky, or just looking in the wrong places.

It's the built in editing that is the issue. I prefer to keep editing and storage separate.

It definately looks like I'll be pushed in that direction. Not that that's a bad thing. Just need to find a great open source photo editing app that I like. (and no, GIMP is not a simple tool that I like to edit with.)

Next cloud would fit 1/2 of it.(photo storage and auto upload from phones) However, I'd still need photo editing software, and I'm sure I can find Open source something to fit that piece of it.

No way would I pay for Adobe cloud.

      @JaredBusch

This is just for my home network. I'm mainly looking for a place to access all of our shared pictures from our phones, DSLR, etc. Bonus if the program can automatically upload from our phone cameras. In this case, it looks like NextCloud can do just that. Looking forward to getting this up and running.

No problem. The admin guide for NextCloud looks like it's pretty decent. I just thought I'd check here first before I go through the process myself.

      ..

      1. As soon as I see a round or square card, or any not-the-normal-shape card, I think "this is not a serious business, and I will not take them seriously. This person is a tree-hugger from a graphic design background who made this card using their MacBook."

Yes and no depending on the business. If you're looking for a graphic design company, or a freelance artist, etc, then I would almost expect their cards to be "special." 🙂

If I'm at a meeting and get one, I take it and put it in either my CRM or Outlook. Then I keep the card in a drawer and then eventually throw them away. I think they still have their place in business. It's something tangible to give out to business prospects or customers. Some people toss them, some people love them. I'm in between. Non-standard designs are nice as they stand out from the crowd.
