    • Asterisk console error with softphone

For a remote user with LinPhone installed on their cell phone, I keep getting these errors in the Asterisk console. If I connect with my cellphone/Linphone, I don't get the errors. Has anyone encountered these specific errors before?

Writing a new script to automate setup of FreePBX.

Started using brackets http://brackets.io as a text editor. Really nice for writing scripts. Color coding, auto completion / closure and best of all, it has a "dark" theme.

What are you automating? There is next to nothing to do if you install from the ISO.

Are you trying to setup from a standalone system? For what purpose do you need to do it so often that you need to script it?

Basically just user setup, ssh port change, adding people to groups, and uninstalling unnecessary modules, etc. Nothing fancy, just felt like scripting tonight.

I like to have glances and a few tools that are no big deal, but annoying if I forget them. So I add those in.

Glances... I have to check that out. I've been looking for a better way to monitor remote servers.

I did a huge partner call with MS themselves in January and they don't use it 😛

Oh that's too good. I thought they would want to use it so they can "achieve more ROI, collaborate more, and synergize more with colleagues and partners" </MicrosoftWordBingo>

Well, then that kind of makes sense with my experiences.

I used it working for 3 companies within the past 7-8 years. The first was a large 20K employee organization and we had 100+ person video/screen sharing conferences often. BUT, they had their own installation of the servers in the company's private data center.

The second place was less than 100, and so is the 3rd company. So that's probably why I haven't been experiencing the same thing.

Why does everyone here hate SFB? Either we are just luckly, and have not have problems on our end, or we simply are not using the same things that everyone else is using.

We use it for chat, video calls, some audio calls, and basic screen sharing. So far, so good, and I've been using it for quite some time.

What is the main complaint here that people are experiencing? What is better in other platforms that is inferior in SFB?

Well, I was going to suggest getting an account on Vultr because they allow you to upload your own ISO and build VMs, but according to @scottalanmiller Vultr's network has issues with PBXs, so that's not really an option.

When did this happen? What issues are people having, and is this a new discovery on Vultr?

Just downloaded it, thanks. Looks like the free version is limited. Can't even transfer a call 🙂

Why do you want to transfer a call? Are you wanting a full featured softphone to replace a desk phone? Then pay for one. Software development is not cheap you know.

Yes, a full featured deskphone replacement. I would have every intension of paying for one, especially at $5. I was just making a comment that the free version was limited. I typically don't pay for one unless I test it first.

You have a perfectly working phone for free. If you want extra, then it is available.

That said it is $5 for transfer and conferencing on the app.

It is $40 for the desktop version.

Yep, agreed. So far, call quality is fine for me. And like I said, I don't really care about price, especially for 5 bucks.

BTW, as an alternative desktop app, I've found that Jitsi has been great as well.

Linphone worked like crap on my iphone. Scott like it, though

Are there any specific options/settings that you set on the FreePBX extension for softphone extensions?

So this is similar to my experience. It works fine for me on my IOS device, but not for a co-worker on an IOS device. The Asterisk console pukes out all those errors in the OP whenever he is connected.

An extension is an extension. What would even be contemplated here as a difference?

Specifically, I was questioning if there are any settings that would help with connection stability for extensions on Cell phones.

@JaredBusch That's interesting. LinPhone "allows" incoming calls to ring if the app is in the background, if TCP transport is used.

This looks like you still use UDP, but they use some other method for keeping the connection alive.

You do not want TCP for voice. It makes the calls worse as soon as there is any little hiccup requiring retransmits.

Agreed. From what I was reading, it looks like LinPhone only uses TCP for the connection only, not the RTP stream.
