Cannot Detect Ubiquiti UniFi Access Point

I have a new UniFi AP that I am attempting to configure. I have it plugged into the PoE and it powers on and gets the light. Everything seems well. But I cannot get it to detect. I tried it with multiple cables on a single switch with a desktop and no luck. I tried it directly connected to a laptop, no luck. The UniFi software just doesn't find anything. Anyone have experience getting these to detect when they are being problematic?

@scottalanmiller I have never had a problem like that. I do not recall the port it uses for notification and communication off the top of my head. Are you certain the firewall on the PC is not the issue? This is on Windows though. I have had problems with the Mac version, but I honestly only tried once, quickly. I never did any troubleshooting.

I claimed to be opening the right ports. It popped up and asked and I allowed them.

You got it, it was a firewall issue. No idea why. Turned off the firewall and it found it immediately. Best Answer to you, my friend.

@scottalanmiller glad it is working. I am interested in the circumstances. I like this equipment and have no plans to stop recommending it. So, it is always good to know the details of when someone else had some issues.

Seems to be purely a Windows firewall issue, nothing to do with the Ubiquiti itself.

Interesting. Have installed the controller on Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and Server 2012 R2 all without a firewall problem. Default Windows firewall only, no third party firewalls.

I'll agree and have never had a firewall issue installing the controller in Win 7. Maybe it was the SAM-firewall that caused the problem?
The biggest problem I have ever had is manually setting the controller ip / host name in an access point after moving the controller to another machine for one reason or another. But I am with @JaredBusch in that I still love their equipment.

The simple trick to this is to use a DNS entry. All the UniFi AP have a hard coded DNS name they attempt to contact for the controller if the IP they have from last contact does not work.
The not simple but still easy way is to SSH in and issues a few commands. The downside to this is a loss of programming as it resets the unit and it has to be re-adopted.
