Did you put in the local IP in your local DNS?

It technically goes into effect immediately. But it takes a bit to converge. But generally I see 99% of things converged in under 15 minutes.

You website host != your DNS host. Are you sure this was where you needed to add that.

Who is your DNS host? It shouldn't be the same as your web host.
