Yes, he was major news over here for a long time. He was really taken advantage of by the US Feds who didn't obey the law. Good to see he got some stuff back. He was really victimized by the US "legal" system.

He sure seems to be. They never came up with any crime for him. He provided a brokerage service that others abused. In the US it is well known that there is massive corruption around the recording industry and them using funds to pressure the government into illegal or, at least, unethical acts against individuals to try to scare people into giving money to the RIAA even when it is not earned. It's pretty broadly accepted that the US Government were the criminals in this case.

Regarding the post itself, the megaupload site was most certainly abused by the users to post copyrighted material. That does not mean that Lim Dotcom himself or the company did anything illegal. The US Government definitely overstepped its authority at the prompting of the media companies.

Yes, lots of illegal activity definitely went on. I'm very "anti-pirate" but any product can be used for illegal activities. I can attack someone violently with a sandwich, but do you charge McDonald's with assault? You can drive a Chevy full of drugs over the border but do you charge GM with drug trafficking? You can post porn on a hacked government website, but does that mean that the government is hosting porn? Kim offered a legitimate file sharing service that others abused. Going after Kim Dotcom actually promoted pirates by telling the actual pirates that it wasn't their fault, it was the tool's fault.
