Trusteer Rapport - protection software

Anyone ever heard of or been forced to use this software?
The bank we use for our business accounts requires the use of Trusteer Rapport on any workstations that we use for online banking.
It seems like it's some type of filtering app.

I've seen that used a few times. It is a legit piece of software.

I know it's not illegit software, I'm more asking, what's the point? Does it really do something of value? If it does, why isn't this baked into most AV products? or something that is pushed for sale to everyone, etc.

Looks like it is an IBM security product. I'd not be thrilled to be required to use that, especially as it requires that you put banking stuff onto Windows only, but it does not appear to be malicious.

Can't say it's a Windows only thing - the website might detect that you're on a non-Windows machine and not require the software.

Can't say it's a Windows only thing - the website might detect that you're on a non-Windows machine and not require the software.
Set your browser to report back as Linux and see if that is true

LOL - Will IE let you do that? We are an IE only shop here. Works best with our EHR.

All the f[moderated] time. Most banks push it out on the business access sides or the damned sites don't load.
It is a virus detection app. If it detects something, it will not let the site load.
I have had conflicts with it and Vipre in the past.

I'm sure that they would. That the software allows IE points to how silly it all is. "We have to be SO secure... but we'll allow IE." It's all a joke, just a chance for the banks to exert control.

If I had the choice, I'd ditch any bank that requires IE for something like that. The Trusteer app does work in Firefox and Chrome the last time I used it.

But only on Windows, since Trusteer specifically is a Windows API hijacker.

Interesting that it being Windows only might cause it to not work on Windows! Although IE is still there, just has to be re-enabled.

IE does not need re-enabled. It is there always. just not the default browser, nor pinned to the start menu by default.
