Refreshes Don't Count
-
Interesting little fact about the traffic numbers on MangoLassi: When you refresh a page, like you just sit and hold down F5 for an hour, it will increment the "viewed" counter like crazy. You could have a thousand views of a single page in an hour no problem. However, after the hour mark, there appears to be a cleanup mechanism that goes along and figures out that that happened and removes the redundant views from the system. So at the top of each hour, any amount of that stuff that might have happened during the hour goes away. So you might see the views on a thread correct themselves down once that has happened.
This is important because it means that our volume numbers are "all real" and not padded by people updating a page, running a script or my our monitoring software polling the site every minute or so (which it does.) None of those things are included in our view counts (after an hour has passed - we see the graphical representations of the hour adjust down too.) Also, views of "non-threads", that is the list screens, don't count!
So when the site is handling 700K views like it did last month, the system is actually serving out closer to a million page renders to actual people at at least 43K page renders to the monitoring system!
So that makes the system activity numbers that much better than they might have been.
