Franky Zapata: Flyboard inventor fails in cross-Channel bid

A French inventor has failed in his attempt to cross the English Channel on a jet-powered flyboard.
Franky Zapata, a former jet-ski champion, had been hoping to cross from northern France to southern England in just 20 minutes.
But the 40-year-old fell into the water halfway across as he tried to land on a boat to refuel.
He took off from near Calais on Thursday morning and was heading for St Margaret's Bay in Dover.
Mr Zapata was not injured when he fell.

Even though that stunt failed - it's still pretty awesome!

Combine the Flyboard with the Compact Fusion Reactor (should we say very Compact Fusion Reactor) and a user should be able to fly around the Earth without refueling. Ahhh.... 2050 here we come!

North Korea missile launch 'a warning to South Korean warmongers'

North Korea has called the test of two new missiles on Thursday a "solemn warning" against what it described as "South Korean warmongers".
The short-range missiles were fired into the Sea of Japan, also known as the East Sea, from Wonsan on North Korea's east coast.
Leader Kim Jong-un said his country was forced to develop weapons to "eliminate potential and direct threats".
He said the test involved a new tactical guided weapons system.
Mr Kim's comments, reported in state media, come after the North criticised a decision by South Korea and the US to hold military drills next month.

Syria war: 'World shrugs' as 103 civilians killed in 10 days

More than 100 people, including 26 children, have died in government attacks on hospitals, schools, markets and bakeries in the past 10 days, the UN's human rights chief said.
Michelle Bachelet said the deaths were part of a "relentless campaign of air strikes by the government and its allies", including Russia.
The civilian targets, she added, were unlikely to have all been accidental.
And yet the reports were being met with "apparent international indifference".
Speaking to reporters, Ms Bachelet hit out at the "failure of leadership by the world's most powerful nations".

Well, sure. But because Disney has totally given up on quality across the board.... going from making quality stuff to making the worst popular garbage ever (opinion I know, but it's so bad I'll no longer watch movies Disney is involved in, they've become a brand name of crap), they've taken their parks from ground breaking and oriented on customer service to just being overpriced six flags with gobs of stupid promotional stuff. They were a great company, and now the world would be a better place if they didn't exist.

That in doing so has made them more money than by creating good content or being ground breaking or whatever is sad because it shows what a horrific state society is in.

Israel backs West Bank homes for settlers and Palestinians

Israel has approved the construction of 6,000 new homes for Jewish settlers and 700 homes for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
The decision about new homes in settlements further extends the Israeli presence in the West Bank.
But it is Israel's approval for Palestinian homes that is unusual.
Israeli settlements in the West Bank are seen as illegal under international law, although Israel disputes this.
It is not clear whether the Palestinian homes would be new constructions or merely legal approval for 700 already existing homes in what is known as "Area C" of the West Bank - where Palestinian villages often lie close to Israeli settlements, and where Israel has full control of the territory.

Meh, I feel the opposite. Kids love the stuff. The current stuff is great imo. Not as good as the classics, but in the same league. Nothing else comes as close.

The top recent favorites, not in any order, are:

                              • Alice in Wonderland

I know there are 4 or 5 more recent ones I can't think of atm off the top of my head. But that's not the point.

As a father of daughters I really liked the message of Frozen. Instead of it being about "prince charming" it is about sisterly love. I felt like that was really well handled unlike the "women save the day" moment in Avengers: Endgame.

Disney sets record for highest-grossing with $7.67 billion so far

                                      This makes me so sad.

                                      Because its Disney?

Meh, I feel the opposite. Kids love the stuff. The current stuff is great imo. Not as good as the classics, but in the same league. Nothing else comes as close.

The top recent favorites, not in any order, are:

                                      • Toy Stories
                                      • Frozens
                                      • Moana
                                      • Beauty and the Beast
                                      • Coco
                                      • Incredibles
                                      • Pirates of the Carribbeans
                                      • Alice in Wonderland

I know there are 4 or 5 more recent ones I can't think of atm off the top of my head. But that's not the point.

Looking at the above list, we (My wife, two kids (4 and 2 y.o.) and I) love the following: (Almost all of the animated movies)
Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, Monster's University, Toy Story 3, Cars 2, Frozen, Big Hero 6, Inside Out, Zootopia, Finding Dory, Moana, Cars 3, Coco, Incredibles 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet

The non-animated ones make me cringe a little though

US interest rates cut for first time in a decade

The US central bank, the Federal Reserve, has cut interest rates for the first time since 2008.
The Fed announced a 0.25 percentage point cut, taking the federal funds target range to 2-2.25%.
Supporters say it will spur a US economy showing signs of needing help.
Critics argue that a rate cut will not help and that the Fed is pandering to President Donald Trump, who had demanded a big cut.
The cut was opposed by two members of the Fed's Open Markets Committee, the body responsible for setting rates.
The Fed statement said the labour market remained strong and economic activity had been rising at a moderate rate.
