I have 2, haven't had any issues yet. I had one of the older models (red ball) that lasted forever until I dropped the ball onto a concrete floor and chipped it.

The scroll wheel dies in them for whatever reason.

Ugh - went from a nice "L" shaped desk with three monitors, space for 2 laptops and stuff to a teany desk with just my Samsung Tablet.... Still looking at concrete - but at least there are more options to step outside.
