Getting Started with DreamHost
-
So they failed to set up our account. We waited over twenty four hours. Not only did they screw up the account but their system won't let us log in either. So they have our credit card info and no way to cancel it. No service, no nothing. No way to reset our passwords either, they don't send a reset email like they say that they do. Going to have to deal with this via the credit card company most likely. Looks like DreamHost needs to be avoided at all cost. Going to take a look at A Small Orange and see if they are a better option. They are one quarter the cost, so probably should have looked at them first anyway.

Wow. I wonder if they went under or something?

Seems hard to believe, but once you get past their main website nothing looks very professional. Definitely appears to be all icing and no cake. I've contacted billing telling them that they had better not charge our card. We will see if anyone actually works there.
-
That's not very impressive. I find it hard to believe that they would not have polished their signup system, losing customers before they even get a chance to try the product is a very foolish time to lose them.
-
The upside, of course, is that I always feel bad when there are competing products and I have no idea which one to try out first and feel bad that maybe the other one was just as good, or better, and I never gave them a chance. So, I don't feel bad that DreamHost lost a customer, in this case.

I sent an E-mail to their PR department with a link to this. So maybe they can give us some answers as to what's up with this.
-
They should make contacting them a bit easier. I wanted a phone number but the "contact" link just took me to submit a ticket, which I did. But that's not a satisfactory experience, especially after two previous problems. How did you get their PR email address? Is that somewhere on their website?

There was a dropdown for PR on the contact form. There is not phone support accounting to this http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Contacting_DreamHost
I actually still have a domain registered through them but, not hosted with them. I might need to consider transferring the domain elsewhere if this is what they are up to.
-
I poked around on their Contact Page and saw nothing but the ticket form. If they are this hard to reach out to for a major issue, I don't want to be dealing with them when they have control of my website!
-
They replied back but all they said was
"Hi,
Thanks for the heads up. We'll take a look at that situation.
Amy F"
Did they contact you at all?
-
Neither on here nor did they email us back from the support ticket, nor just contact in general for getting the account set up.
-
Sounds like an epic fail... ouch.
-
Still no contact from them of any sort.
-
Ouch again..
I ran into a issue with BlueHost this past week... I went to contact them via chat and was reported to have a 30 minute wait time.... THAT told me there was something going on with the servers and such,.. so I dropped off gave it some time and maybe two hours later things where running normal again.
-
How much are you paying? A Simple Orange is just $5.
-
And it is past midnight and..... zero contact from DreamHost. It has now been a day and a half, we've submitted a ticket, we've waited when they told us to wait, even PR was contacted and they just can't be bothered to do anything.
-
Looks like you weren't the only one. Someone else on Facebook complained of something similar.
-
Just checked, they tried to charge us too! Looks fishy.

This is really odd. They used to have such a good reputation.
-
The charge has not gone completely through, yet, so we cannot begin the process of disputing it. I'm pretty unhappy that they pull this "wait three hours and don't bother us" bullsh!t, then don't bother to set up the account (accidents happen, but having that three hour hold once they've charged you is not cool, they don't warn you, they just don't set up your account), then failing everything don't refund nor provide notice that something was wrong, then don't have any way to contact them except through a rather crappy ticketing interface that demands inappropriate information from you and then they don't respond to that either. When an issue is wrongful billing for services not delivered, you freaking respond.
