For those of you who are into sport, here's ESPN's crack at explaining cricket to people.
It's a fairly good overview, although admittedly, I only read the second link.

If I can't figure out the general outline of a sport by watching it for an hour or two then it isn't worth my time. I would rather research and learn other things than a sport that is very intricate with rules.
I'll admit American Football takes a while to understand every rule, but figuring out the general outline of the game isn't nearly as difficult as cricket. I learned about Rugby and Curling just by watching them. I have tried to watch cricket, but I just don't understand it.

Is cricket that complicated? It's not much different from baseball is it? You hit the ball and run to a certain place. If you get to this place in time you get one point. If you hit the ball out of the park you get a few points and don't have to bother running. If someone catches the ball without it bouncing first, you're out.

Cricket just takes so long.

Cricket, you mean the little bug that keeps me up all night?

I used to work in an office in New Jersey where there was an office cricket team. One of my friends almost lost an eye that way and was hospitalized for a very long time. Thankfully he recovered, but that is one dangerous sport.

If anyone wants an awesome introduction to Cricket and to some Indian history, check out the very long but awesome movie Lagan: Once Upon a Time in India which talks about the British occupation, cricket and taxation of the people. Great historical movie.

I don't care for baseball at all, but It seems like cricket is quite a bit more complicated
