Outlook for Mac 2015 does not support Exchange 2007

I wiped and reinstalled my MacBook Pro because was tired of dealing with a bunch of little issues (likely caused by me over the years).
When I went to download Office 2011 from the VLSC I noticed that there was a new version of Outlook for Mac 2015 also available. Great!
Wrong......
I installed office and then setup my email accounts using Outlook 2011 because I was in a hurry with a sudden client issue.
The next day I installed Outlook for Mac 2015 and received a warning that I would import the Exchange accounts from 2007, but no longer connect to it. WTF?!? Exchange 2007 is still a fully supported version of Exchange.
True to its word, the installer brought in the accounts and then refused to sync.
When you try to manually add the account, it connects, auto discovery works, and then gives you an authentication error.
Google searches return he same result. Seriously WTF.
This does not impact my email as our company is on Office 365, but I have a number of clients with SBS 2008 still. That runs Exchange 2007 and now I cannot check the admin account natively. Grrrr.

Yes this is really the difference between versions of ActiveSync... 2007 is the old school way and now they are using Outlook Anywhere which is different enough to cause your troubles. Exchange 2007 is already nearing the end of life (April 11 2017) so this is your wake up call to start thinking about a migration to Office 365 or Exchange 2013 in-house.
In the mean time you will be forced to use 2011 for your email.

Already? That is still more than 2 years out.

No, Outlook 2011 is no longer on my system.

Ran into an issue recently with a new client who got new computers with Windows 7 and Office 2013 but is currently running Exchange 2003, which isn't supported by Outlook 2013. So I installed Outlook 2010 on all the new computers except now we're setting up a new domain and new Exchange server, etc. Fun fun...

Start really selling O365 to your customers. It benefits both them and you
