Small improvements coming in the next update. Interface updates are a big deal as the interface is so clunky. I'm on 8.1 and it is better than 8 but not up to par with 7 or Cinnamon.

        My favorite bit

Windows 8.1 Update brings many more little changes. Many of them should have been in Win8 from the get-go. For example, in Windows 8.1 Update, the default apps for viewing pictures and media on the Desktop doesn't propel you to the Metro side any more: You get connected to Desktop programs that can handle the file type just fine.

It's funny that that is such a big deal but it really is.

I used to think people were just whiners about the fact that the wallpaper didn't follow from the desktop to the start screen, but I definitely notice the 'jarring nature' of it now that I'm using Windows 8.x daily. Does it bother me enough to complain, not really.

But the default apps that MS wants you to use, COME ON! I'm on the desktop why in the world would I want to use a full screen PDF viewer or picture viewing app? especially if the system has a desktop version installed (hint hint Windows photo viewer).

Looks like Windows 8.1 is going to be a little less annoying to use. I'm happy about the power button showing up next to my name.

I really have gotten used to it now. I have been on 8.1 for a few months now. It will be nice to have it start on the desktop rather than have to switch to it and the photo viewer working in desktop mode would be great (however I have gotten round this by using picasa). It will be nice to have things where it is easy to blindly walk a user through finding things now though 🙂

@Dashrender Same for me. I'm cool with Windows 8 and 8.1. It's just those stinking default apps that I despise.

Yeah, the default apps are really out of control.

What would be nice for the professional edition would be to have a core option for power users just like the option you get with 2012 server. Load just what you want.......wait.......hasn't Linux been doing this for a LONG TIME?

@scottalanmiller Good to see that there is some effort to make it "better". Even though I've been using it for quite some time, I still don't like it all that much.
Windows 8 is a little like being forced to wear the uncomfortable pants simply because you have no other clean ones available.

It's more like having to wear someone else's pants after they had an accident in them.

Looks like MS has already released the code, but they keep pulling it from the update servers.

They only released it for dogfooding.

LOL...I just saw a client this week who needed a "tune up" on her W8.1 PC. I got there and she said look, and clicked on a video. The video W8 app page loaded and the spinning wheel started. After 30 seconds, I closed the window. I right clicked on the video icon and clicked open with Windows Media Player...and BAM the video started playing immediately!

The customer was like wow, the other way took 2-3 minutes to start and then would pause and like fast forward and was weird acting. I told her that I made sure all her videos would now open in WMP.

Except for the FB app (sort of) I don't know of any W8 App that does anything for me.

I literally use absolutely no Windows 8 apps. I hate them so much. So jarring and weird and none of them work well. Just a bad idea. I've tried several and not a one of them has had any value that I could ascertain.

I have yet to use any either - I haven't bothered to look through the store either.

There is no way to find anything. The store is completely worthless. If you don't already know about what you want and its exact name you are completely SOL.
