My daughter is home sick with strep today and Alien: Isolation got an early release on STEAM today so will get some (rare) play time in today... anyone else getting the game?
-
No gaming time for me. Hope that your daughter feels better soon.

Hope your daughter feels better! Work for me today.

Hopefully she is feeling well enough to play the game with you.

What is this thing called STEAM - other than what generally escapes from my ears...
(googling)

@g.jacobse Steam is the largest hosted video game service. Think Audible or Kindle but for video games.
-
Neat -
I'll have to look at it more,.. thought I generally don't do much gaming.
-
How is the game? Alien themed games have had a rough run of it lately.

I don't game much...pretty much since she was born (7 now)...I like the Alien franchise and I heard this game gets the atmosphere right...and so far, yes...played 2 hours and just now saw the alien "tail" get someone...very engrossing story so far...
And thanks...she is feeling a little better...imagine she'll be in school tomorrow...

If you liked the first movie, single alien, then you will love this game...as mentioned, I've played 2 hours and just now my character saw a glimpse of the Alien...so, now I know it is there...basically, this is between Alien and Aliens...you are Amanda Ripley, looking for clues to her mother's disappearance...
-
Oh that's pretty cool. I didn't realize what it was. I might enjoy that.
How is the ration between action and story?
-
So far the ratings on Metacritic look pretty good. http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/alien-isolation

It has been more story than action...basically, 15 years after ALIEN, you play Ripley's daughter, Amanda. "The Company" asked you to come to a station where a flight recorder from her mother, Ellen Ripley, has been stored after it was discovered. You get to the station and it is dark and damaged so you have to space walk over and that goes wrong and you end up in the station all alone. Lighting, sounds, darkness...you make your way around...you log into some workstations to get story background and there are a lot of good cut scenes...won't give away more than that but this is not going to be a shoot 'em up game...it is more survival and out "cunning" the Alien...you build your tools (tracker, med kits, torches, etc.) with parts you find...

Been looking at picking it up, but can't decide between this, The Evil Within, or Borderlands The Pre-Sequel.
-
I'm still working through the Space Quest series with my girls. Completed episode two last night.

If you REALLY liked the original ALIEN, you HAVE to get this...and do know, this isn't a run of the mill FPS...this is survival, gadget building, sneaking, hiding, outwitting...I'm loving every minute of it...

Love those games Scott...I tried to get my Little Girl into Kings Quest but either the interface is not modern enough (I.E. not touch) or she just isn't ready for it. We did play the board game CLUE last night and she did fairly well for a 7 year old...

@garak0410 My five year old plays King's Quest on her own and the three year old watches. I am there to help, of course. The early Space Quest games are too hard because they are the original EGA versions with pure text input as well as output (all information is written, all input in typed.) The KQ remakes with the voice acting and the mouse input she is able to do. The three year old will even do the walking sometimes. We've tried Quest for Glory as well, but that one is a little harder and she needs to be a little older.
Before trying KQ, SQ and QfG series, I started them on some of the more modern games of that type via Steam such as Unwritten Tales and Night of the Rabbit. My oldest has been doing the point and click adventure games since she was four and both girls just love them. And they really get into the stories and puzzles.

I haven't seen Space Quest in forever. Those games were actually pretty awful. Classic, but awful.

I was not enthralled by SQ2 last night for "family fun night".
