64bit Chrome Released
-
Google has finally promoted 64bit Chrome as stable and claims that it is massively more stable and quite a bit faster than its old, 32bit sibling. Time to upgrade Chrome.
-
About time!
-
I will be trying this out immediately.
-
If you use the link at the end of the article, you find the non-beta version shown here: https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/?platform=win64.
I tried to Google the Chrome 64bit browser and the number one choice is their beta browser seen here: https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/beta.html.
Downloading the real 64b browser now.
-
Installing right now.
-
Maybe that finally means we can use Java in Chrome on mac os again! Java only makes 65bit plugins for newer OSes. and Chrome can't tie in to 64bit plugins. Downloaded. It semi-works. I think java needs to update to be compatible again fully though.
-
65bit? That's a small step up, lol.

@scottalanmiller Fat Fingered
-
So far no issues! Working as expected.
-
Anyone notice that some fonts changed with the update to 64bit?
-
@scottalanmiller Nope or at least not on mac.

Yes. A lot of fonts have gone tiny as well.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing 32-bit, but that didn't go to well.
I note that OWA for Exchange 2010 doesn't work properly in the latest version of Chrome as well, which is a bit of a pain.
It's almost enough to make me go back to IE (not really).
-
I've started having some weird issues with Chrome 64 having links randomly not work.
-
@scottalanmiller I've always had that issue with chrome, it's always just one tab that won't go to new links. all others usually work fine.
-
Yeah, just one tab!
-
Since switching to 64 bit chrome I have had chrome crash more times than in the last 3 years I have used it.
I can make it crash every time by clicking on a PDF link (which auto opens in the built in viewer) and then closing the tab. This is very annoying.

Yeah, the x64 Chrome has been unstable for me as well. I just reverted back to the 32-bit version.
-
Just a little flaky for me. Mostly good.
-
It's having issues all over the place on Mac os for me. but so does 32bit right now. So Meh.
Safari seems to work the best right now but I have problems with some webforms not working in it. I need a new default browser I think since firefox was new rewritten so it's not entirely native on mac (meaning it's slow). -
With all of the problems, I still think that Chrome remains generally the best choice. None are perfect, all are fine these days. If I was on Mac, I'd probably just use Safari most of the time. But I'm not so maybe I would switch to Chrome. Typically I am on a mix of Chrome and Firefox throughout the day.
