Integrate Rocketchat with Jitsi
-
While working on Rocketchat and discussing with @scottalanmiller VitalPBX I came across https://meet.jit.si/ which works great for Video Conferencing and has a dial-in option as well which is Free.
It integrates very well with Slack using their link https://slack.com/oauth/authorize?client_id=116888949298.122751011265&scope=bot,commands
However, with Rocketchat I needed to add the Jitsi App and Configure the settings for meetings.
1- Go to your Rocketchat server instance and login
2- Got to your Administration Panel
3- Go to the Market Place and Install the Jitsi Meet App
4- Then once installed click on the app and add the Jitsi Meet URL
In my case it was https://meet.jit.si/ you can change it to something else as well.
5- Once done enable it.
6- Scroll down to Video Conference
7- Expand Jitsi and Enable the settings as you need to
8- Save the changes.
Once completed you can just type on your chat /jitsi and the name of you room or name and it will create a conference for you

This is much improved since I last tried to integrate the two services.

Admittedly with the new version now you need to actually connect your cloud account whit your instance to get the Marketplace apps as well.

@dbeato I've not been able to get the fly-out window to work in the Windows desktop app, I had to set it to open the Jitsi Meet in a separate web browser tab. Did you get the in-app meeting working?
I do have Nginx proxying for RocketChat security, even though it is only in-house. I couldn't figure out if that had anything to do with it.

@brianinca do you have an example of how you expect it to work?
-
@dbeato if you set this option:
Then you SHOULD get a slideout video window when you select video call from the menu:
So that would be nice to keep it in the context of RocketChat, it just doesn't fly. /jitsi <name> is more than our safety guys can handle, apparently!

I set it as you but I couldn't get any video chat as you show. I will test it out.

Based on the documentation it does not work in the local rocketchat app
