Using an intel card here...

At least on Fedora 31 GNOME 3.34.3, the brightness slider only appears on my laptop but not my desktop.

I wouldn't think you should expect a brightness control here. But maybe for things like a nightlight setting now that I think about.

Yeah, I never use this on a desktop. but @CCWTech does. I do use it on a laptop all the time, though, but I use the hardware's brightness, not the OS' when I do that. So I never use this control.

I have 4 screens so looking for something in the OS to handle. Not practical to manually adjust monitors each time I want a change.

Interesting - In my experience, if you don't install the HP hotkey drivers - the hardware buttons for screen brightness don't work - this has lead me to believe that these buttons aren't really hardware buttons at all - am I mistaken?

We've tested on multiple machines, all seem the same. Both Nvidia and AMD cards the same lack of adjustment.
Ubuntu 19.10 live install env works great with my AMD APU 3 2200g however after you install the OS and boot with it, it produces graphical artifacts everywhere that do not appear in the live install env.
So avoiding since 20.04 is around the corner, however it works well in my work laptop HP Elitebook 840 G6

Is the live install using Wayland or Xorg and using proprietary or open source video drivers.

On Ubuntu 19.10, there is a brightness setting on the power screen in settings. But it doesn't seem to do anything. You can slide it, but nothing happens. Anyone having luck adjusting screen brightness on Ubuntu?

Running 19.10 and I don't even have a brightness setting at all.
I have it, but it affects nothing.
Laptop or desktop monitor? I can't imagine it working on anything but a laptop.

Works fine in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Does gnome menu still look the same?
Slider is there, but does nothing.
It worked on Ubuntu on my laptops I know for sure last time I had it on my laptops. Dunno the version.

That's why. I know of no OS that controls monitor brightness unless it's a laptop/tablet/phone/etc. Never an external monitor with separate power source.

Me either, but @CCWTech was asking for it. I've never looked for it before. No idea what it should do in that situation.
