Exploring VitalPBX

I might have to spin this up and give it a test at some point.

@scottalanmiller Do you know if the MySQL root password is set?
By default there is definitely none set.
-
@black3dynamite remember that this is not a database server and the database just replaces text configuration files. So having root open on MySQL is no different than having a root-only readable configuration file. Unless you encrypt your /etc directory and require a second password to read the data there even for the root user, then this is no different. And if you did use a root password on MySQL, given that there needs to be automation to it, that password would be stored in a root readable location completely defeating the purpose anyway.

I guess this is a good problem to have...

Where did this come up?
-
@scottalanmiller It was on the homepage the day/time I posted it. Seems fixed now, but interesting.

Their ISO is on SourceForge.
While I know the sourceforge was purchased and their crapware stuff removed a couple years ago, I still don't like the interface and all the shitware promoted when you download something. This: https://vitalpbx.org/?smd_process_download=1&download_id=2284
Ended up here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/vitalpbx/files/latest/download
Resulting in this: https://astuteinternet.dl.sourceforge.net/project/vitalpbx/vitalpbx-latest.isolike wtf...

@scottalanmiller said in Exploring VitalPBX:
But VitalPBX is lighter than some older Asterisk PBXs like FreePBX, so don't worry too much about resources that are needed.
wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/VitalPBX/VPS/master/vps.sh
chmod +x vps.sh
./vps.shThat's literally it. That's the entire installation! You should now have a running VitalPBX!
The only promoted method seems to be the ISO download.
This method is not hinted at anywhere unless you download/open their manual and finally find an Appendix on how to do what you listed.

20 minutes later it is not done yet..
Edit: finally done....
-
why not do it the "easy" way?

Did you not read anything I posted? Or did you justwant to fan boy and bitch at me without thinking?
-
@JaredBusch I did read it, I just don't understand it.
Neither do I understand this: https://mangolassi.it/topic/19615/setting-up-a-skyetel-sip-trunk-in-freepbx/20Maybe I just missed the post where you explained it ? Likely, I'm just not smart enough!
Where my fanboy emoji at! -

It is very simple. You said "easy way"... Well that is not the promoted "normal" way to install VitalPBX per their website. The only thing they promote is to download the ISO.

Skyetel said they only recommend using multiple
pjsip
trunks to handle calling. My guide specifically did not do that. Hence the guide instead of just referencing their guide.
Now I discover that at approximately the same time as I wrote that guide, a totally unrelated group (VitalPBX) wrote a guide with exactly the same design as I did for
pjsip
trunks. And they had the assistance of Skyetel staff for it. So Skyetel should rethink their "recommendation" for
pjsip
trunk setup. -
@JaredBusch Thx for the detail.

Clicking Downloads on the VitalPBX site takes you here:
Not sure how one method is promoted over the other.
The VPS is the easier (for me) method.
-
And more poking while I wait for the install to complete.
VitalPBX was Ombutel, which I had heard of as we talked about it here in 2017.
I did checking then. Their website launched in December 2015 with "Coming Soon" and was never updated to have good information until 2017.
And todays checking shows they then they rebranded themselves as VitalPBX in 2018.
Someone ( @rcuadra ), apparently from Ombutel/VitalPBX, responded in that thread in 2017 hinting at the rebranding. But nothing was ever followed up.

But that is an unusable script. There is no mention of what OS to use, or what version, or anything.
I know, and you know, that any CentOS 7 VPS will work. But we do not know that from that page, or the script page.

Second impression, the interface is great. It's attractive, modern, looks professional, and is super responsive. Not what I am used to on a PBX at all. Very impressive. It's easy to find what you need, and everything looks good and gets you where you need to go really quickly. It feels like working on VitalPBX will be much more efficient than on some other systems because it just seems very fast and intuitive. Also the interface is responsive, I tried it on my phone and it worked quite well.
The interface is good. This is definitely a plus for the system. But then it was good before too.
