Docking Station Recommendations for Dell Latitude 7490
-
The Dell USB-C type docking stations seem to get mediocre reviews (at best). I am looking for recommendations for deploying to an SMB with Dell Latitude 7490s. Probably about 40 or so units (over time), so I want them to be reliable.
Equipment and ports required,
-
2x HDMI or HDMI and Display port combos (1080 is fine)
-
1x Gb NIC
-
USB-C capable
Power would be nice, but not required.
Does anyone have good recommendations for docking stations?

The main issue I see is that you are limited to USB-C or USB-3 type connections as there is no e-dock type port.
Which is a shame since the C-docks gave you a full bus connection

@gjacobse - Yeah, the older style docks with a dedicated port (proprietary?) seemed to be much better/more reliable.

I agree - my brother has mentioned a number of time the dock he has to support has a sloppy USB-C connector. even the slightest movement moved the connector enough to break the connection.

Yeah, if that is the case, I will not use a dock and have the users connect the monitors and KB/M, directly. It sucks, but it works.

We are starting to use USB-C stations for clients. More flexible, but, we'll see how they hold up.

@scottalanmiller - Are you using universal or proprietary docks?

We have both the Dell USB-C docks and a couple of the Thunderbolt models. So far we have had no problem with the USB-C. I even use one for my machine. The Thunderbolts were a bit problematic around the first part of 2017, but after several firmware updates they seem to have stabilized.
