Inactive IMAP account results in orphaned .OST file
-
A client recently ended his email service with his ISP and removed the account from Outlook. He then realized he could no longer access his saved folders and emails in this IMAP account in Outlook.
Is there a way for him to view the emails and folders contained in the orphaned .ost file remaining on his machine? Can they be imported into an existing IMAP (gmail) account within Outlook?
The email account was deactivated in July, 2017. He had been receiving emails until he deleted the account from Outlook today. The .ost files remains, along with the gmail.ost which is still in use.
Thank you.

To follow up, has anyone used the below software?
-
Should be able to open them still in Outlook.

The email account associated with the .ost file has been deleted from Outlook.

I think something like OST Viewer is going to be your best bet.

Yes, that is what we are thinking. Anyone have a recommended OST Viewer/Converter?
Many of them look scammy.

This seems like the way to go...

Only paid tools will be able to open the OST and export it for the user. I usually use Stellar OST to PST application for that.

For future knowledge, you always want to export to a PST from within Outlook prior to dumping an account.
If this mail is important, then buy an OST to PST converter. Do not mess with half measures. They always seem to run into issues later.

@jaredbusch Thanks mate. Client called me in a panic because he was "cleaning up," saw the warning regarding removing an IMAP account, thought "what could possibly go wrong?" and removed it anyway.
Am headed there now and will follow dbeato's advice regarding Stellar.
