Plantronics Savi W730-M
-
When I was at NTG, this product was utilized even more so I'll be using that as the basis of much of my experience.
Let me start by saying that I originally had the Savi line's predecessor, the CS530. So both the CS530 and the W730 have the same headset, just different bases. You can actually interchange them as well (remove one, dock the other, wait 5 seconds, good to go!)
So the Savi W730-M, paired with the HL-10 Handset Lifter, and I used this headset for everything, and I do mean everything. It was for my deskphone, which was a Yealink SIP-T20P, which used the HL-10, as it was not compatible with any EHS (Electronic Hook Switch). I had a USB cord that ran from the Savi to my computer, and this model (as are any with the -M after them) was optimized for Lync! Lastly, and this was the revolutionary bit, I paired my cellphone to it as well.
The unit has the best of all worlds. It communicates via cable or bluetooth to its devices, for maximum compatibility. However, it transmits to the headset using DECT, which means you have significantly higher range than bluetooth.
Now, if you want desk and mobile to go connectivity, the Voyager Legend CS is a good bet, as it's all bluetooth. The disadvantage is your range is drastically smaller.
Points to consider:
With the Savi W730-M, I was able to take a deskphone call, or cell call, and it would show me as busy on Lync. Now, you have to be using Lync 2013, and you have to have the Smart Presence software installed, but that runs as a service and is practically invisible. I loved it. The moment any connection was established between the headset and a device, it showed me as busy. One point to note though...I found that, at times, when I'd reboot, it wouldn't work. The issue? I had a Voyager Legend (separate review) on a dock charging, and because it picks it up as a device, for some reason it wouldn't work with the notifications. The fix? Take Legend off dock, wait 2 seconds, re-dock. Fixed!I have nothing bad to say about the Savi W730-M. It's a phenomenal device, and any of the Savis in this line do the same thing, it just depends on the headset style you prefer. I like this one.
The only thing I would say could use improvement is the muting. The muting on this style headset means you press and hold the volume down (-) button on the headset for a couple seconds. You hear a beep, the dock shows red for the connection, indicating it's muted. However, if someone starts talking, it can take 3-5 seconds from them saying something to you moving your hand to the headset, holding it down for a couple seconds, it registering and then you being able to acknowledge them. I've had that be a bit hard before so maybe a dedicated mute switch, or a quicker way would be better.
The headset is comfortable to wear and you can easily forget you have it on. Quality of sound both ways is excellent, and the range really is ridiculously good. Anyways, that's what I have to contribute for this review. Anyone else?
Thanks,
A.J.
