Coronavirus threatens the next generation of smartphones
Every Autumn, Mazen Kourouche heads to the biggest Apple Store in Sydney, Australia, and queues up for hours to be one of the first people in the world to get his hands on the latest iPhone.
"Since the iPhone 7 came out I've been lining up for the new Apple devices for a few reasons: firstly the hype associated with them, secondly because of the resale value, and thirdly because Australia is the first country to get access to the devices, so people are interested in hearing about it," he says. According to Mr Kourouche, who develops software for the iPhone operating system (iOS), many people would usually travel from overseas to get their hands on the iPhone in Australia. The nation's time zone means its Apple stores are the first to open around the world on launch day. -

Coronavirus: Google reveals travel habits during the pandemic
Google is to publicly track people's movements over the course of the coronavirus pandemic.
The tech firm will publish details of the different types of places people are going to on a county-by-county basis in the UK, as well as similar data for 130 other countries. The plan is to issue a regular updates with the figures referring back to activity from two or three days prior. The company has promised that individuals' privacy will be preserved. The readings are based on location data gathered via the Google Maps app or one of the firm's other mobile services. -

Zoom boss apologises for security issues and promises fixes
Zoom is to pause the development of any new features to concentrate on safety and privacy issues, in the wake of criticism from users of the app.
In a blog, the chief executive of the video conferencing app apologised for "falling short" on security issues and promised to address concerns. He said that the use of Zoom had soared in ways he could never have foreseen prior to the coronavirus pandemic. One security expert said he hoped the company culture would change. Zoom is now being used by millions of people for work and leisure, as lockdowns are imposed in many countries. -

I can see it taking over Google Chrome as top choice for users who are browser-aware. IMHO, Microsoft did it best.

I can see it taking over Google Chrome as top choice for users who are browser-aware. IMHO, Microsoft did it best.
hard to know, I've not had a user use it intentionally yet. It's all new branding and people are just confused.

The only reason that this will gain a large foot print is because it will be the default browser on Windows. End of discussion.

I agree with Jared, people will stick with it because it no longer sucks... it just works. normal people don't get chrome because they want it, it's because old edge and IE sucked.

What's so great about it? Isn't it just a copy of Chrome trailing behind? Does it work on other OSes?
Looks like they don't have much faith that those who CHOOSE would choose it. This is still a "by accident" for people who aren't discerning. Certainly not made of people who actually pay attention. Jared is spot on... it's "good enough" for the kind of people who are stuck on Windows (almost all because they don't realize that they don't have to be) and who use "whatever is there" because they aren't savvy enough to change.
Edge is "good enough", that fewer people are replacing it than before. But that's not to imply it is "good".

Just to give it the benefit of the doubt, since I can't try it but only read about it since MS doesn't seem to really believe in their product, I looked up the "features" of it, and all they can say about it is how it is worse than Google. No listed benefits, but the huge negative of being integrated with Bing.
So damn, even MS is slamming it.

Edge is based on Chromium.
Chrome is based on Chromium.
Opera is based on Chromium.Chrome != Chromium.

Does it work on other OSes?
Yes, it works on all of the OSs that the majority of graphical web browser users would be running. So Mac, Windows, IOS, and Android. Linux Workstation/Desktop users are pretty small user base in comparison to the others just mentioned. I'm sure their focus is to polish it for those before focusing on the major Linux desktop OS flavors.
