See, this is a product that makes a lot of sense for them. Useless to IT, but good for a lot of the original, core, Ubiquiti market.

          Kinda what I was thinking...

Though, I didn't think Edge was their WISP equipment, thought that was mostly on the Unifi side?

Unifi is more the IT side. Edge is more the infra side.

Honestly, about time.. There is no reason for anything to support such old architecture anymore.

Apple shares its vision for macOS 10.15 Catalina: Cross-platform apps are key

The future of macOS is in iOS—but there's other new stuff to be excited about, too.
The next major operating system update for Apple's Mac computers will bring new apps, a handful of quality life improvements, and, most importantly, a far-reaching initiative to (at least partially) unify the app-development process across devices running iOS and macOS.

Didn't Microsoft try this approach with Windows 8? It didn't go so well for them.

Not really... MS tried (continues to try, though I think they are finally about to give up on it) their "modern" apps platform. This wasn't apps designed for Windows Mobile that could also run on Windows desktop - it was still mostly desktop only... with some smattering of crossover here and there - as I understood it.

For MS they were trying to unify to disparate platforms. For Apple, it's process unification. Both platforms are already pretty close and ru the same code.

Microsoft and Oracle Expand Offerings with New 'Cross-Cloud' Support

Microsoft and Oracle on Wednesday together announced an expansion of their partnership, with new "cross-cloud" capabilities for larger organizations to tap.
Both companies, as providers of public cloud services to organizations, have been competitors, but they've nevertheless had a close partnership for the last six years around their hosted applications and services offerings.
