Laser printer sometimes trips an APC and shuts off computer??

@JaredBusch Good to know, let me check them out.
I guess if you honestly do not care about the user, the 3 series is ok. PC, monitor, and desk phone only things on it.
Just consider it a glorified surge protector that hold power for a minute, not a battery backup.
-
@JaredBusch But the 5S is not much different in price so using a 3S is of not benefit when price is the same...

Voltage regulation is the biggest thing IMO.
-
@JaredBusch Yes, that is big.
-
I assume voltage regulation is the root of my issue then. The laser printer caused "something" that the battery is not designed or quick enough to handle.
The only weird thing is that it doesn't happen most of the time. About once in every 50 prints maybe more.
-
To troubleshoot, if you get a voltmeter, make sure to use an old analog one. The voltage dip may be too quick for a digital one to detect. With a good analog one, you can watch the needle drop for a second if there is a quick dip.

That's my guess.

Well it happened again.
Ordered an Eaton 5S700. Might as well give it a shot.

Never using a UPS on a laser printer is probably the only useful thing I learned in A+.....

Right. Isn't that in UPS 101?
-
Boom that still holds true today

Yeah. I am surprised everyone is trying to recommend a solution instead of telling him it isnt recommended and for good reason. When losing power, generally a printer is the last thing you worry about.
If you must have an emergency printer, I would recommend a high speed inkjet.

He's isn't. The printer is plugged directly into the wall, but it's on the same circuit as the UPS.

I have scientific proof some people respond to threads without reading anything but the last one or two posts.
The printer is not even on the same cord or wall socket as my computer/UPS, but it still causes a brownout. It trips my Back-UPS ES 550 but not a Back-UPS Pro 700 I have in the same room for other stuff.
-
This is the second time today someone has accused me of not reading a thread.
I will not mention how many times it has been true.

I think somewhere in here is a male/female communication analogy.

Well now that the issue is obvious. Get an electrician to fix it

Also been mentioned. But still, the UPS should not do what it is doing unless it has failed also.
A new UPS will not do this, and that will give him time to get an electrician out as needed later.

I wouldn't put a laser printer into a UPS.
If you lack plugs, and need protection, use a good power strip (for the printer) in one wall socket, use the APC in the other.
Jared, this isn't supposed to be a reply to you... I don't know why it did that.

FFS people. There is no damned printer plugged into a UPS.
