I just saw Elastix and PIAF go in flames by way of 3CX "acquisition." Any recommendation on true open source options available? Thanks.

Doesn't that require Sangoma or derivative of Sangoma? Thtat's not open source if so.

Completely open source. 100%. https://www.freepbx.org/ There are some addons that aren't open source but none of them are required for the actual use of deployment of the system.

Sangoma makes FreePBX, so yes. but it's 100% open source. Not sure why you feel Sangoma code isn't open source, it's GPL.

Sangoma uses FreePBX with an additional frontend for their enterprise PBX systems. So really Sangoma's PBXact is just a FreePBX derivative.

Info on the PIAF acquisition. Clearly NerdVittles is just silly at this point. PIAF and Elastix were dead projects already because of FreePBX. They've been essentially pointless for some time.

I've been actually been so busy for past few months on projects that these news slipped by me. Astonishing but not surprising.

You'll find lots of FreePBX users here, so that part is handy, too.

I am interested in Xivo (whatever their new name is).

It is not production ready like FreepBX yet, but their goal of making everything accessible via REST API will make it a very flexible thing.

Me too, certainly lots of potential and I hate the FreePBX interface, so am hopeful there.

They plan to eventually make their own interface, but for now it is all basic. They expect/hope others will make things too.

I've seriously thought about that. I'm not good with interfaces, though. So not my wheelhouse.

Also the Wazo(XiVO) developers are great guys. A few of the FreePBX team (Rob Thomas ( @xrobau ) and I) talk to them ( @quintana ) weekly on IRC/Twitter and we've conversed over a hangout session and at Astricon.
