Getting back in to this. My goal is crown level 3 on everything before I move to the next skill set.
-
@jaredbusch I need to work on that. Took Japanese in college but don't remember much now. Kept all my old textbooks though.

I have no excuses. I have been leaning this since 2004. Married a Japanese woman in 2007. Raise my kids bilingual.
I totally failed at spending any dedicated time to learning.
-
@jaredbusch I haven't kept up my learning either and I know I should . I enjoy it. It's just so easy to only do stuff with the kids and do other things that need doing.
-
Getting to level 3 slowly but consistently. Not caring about the streak has helped.
-
Yes, totally lost any streak potential this weekend. But was at a Mexican graduation party so did all Mexican food and everyone speaking in Spanish. So got a little practice.

How do you do that?
I have 66 of those "lessons" or whatever they are... Those circles, I'm not even half way through.
Are you getting them (the ones you have already done) to level 3 before do new lessons? That's what I'm trying to do... Get what I've already done to level 3 or to the point that I'm fluent with them before starting new lessons.

Yes, I am raising to level 3 from the beginning.

@obsolesce It takes FOREVER. So much work to get crowns.

It is supposed to as it is supposed to represent a time sunk, and in theory, better understanding.
At the lower side of the tree, it is a bit of a waste to go beyond crown 3 IMO. Because there is so little to each lesson, that you repeat the same small things way to many times.
But at the more advanced ones, I would hope it is a bit better. I haven't worked my way back up to those yet.

I'm about 138 crowns in, and I'm finding the drill and kill working for me. I'm retaining way more than I used to.

Hiragana 1-3 were 10 lesson to get from 2 to 3.
Hiragana 4 is 14. -
Getting back into this again. Got my wife on board also, on the same language. Hopefully that will help.
Does anyone use the Plus (Paid) version?
-
Tried this on a computer this morning. Mobile is my preferred experience, but the web version is pretty nice too.

I prefer the web, but Android gives more points for the same stuff.

I haven't noticed that, it's the same for me.
I prefer the web for learning, as the Android app doesn't give any explanations or teaching content... only practice.
-
@scottalanmiller Yeah, just started with the Web. It also lets you access the lab stuff. I like it.
-
The new "test out" feature is great. I'm really liking that. And in Spanish that added like fifty new categories of things! So much more content now.
-
I haven't touched Duolingo for a month or two.
Before, I would be able to see skill deterioration and could brush up on those and then get back into the game.
Now, I have no idea other than to just start at the beginning and get htem all to a certain point.
They all look like the pic below, with the ones up higher all at "3s". But it's been awhile...
What do you guys do now?
-
They've completely changed how it works. It is the Crown system now. I go one by one and max them out, personally. I think that that is the better idea, it's meant to do reinforcement.
