This thread sure seems like it was planted by a SW employee or potential vendor. OP sounds like someone trying to gather market research.

Could be, but there's a typo in the title. Space between S and W, so it would be poor marketing.

Or they did that intentionally to make it seem "real". But I'm a lifelong cynic.

I'd really like to build a small forge and melt the platters. Still don't know what to do with the flash bits tho.
They are basically coated glass, just break them?

For the platters sure, but what about the newfangled silicon only storage?

when you put a bunch of stuff into a forge to melt it and there's some unwanted crap it's called dross or slag
burn it all and let gravity sort it out

Shredder. That is what I do with my drives. The service that shreds the paper for one of my clients accepts drives.

Should be a data destruction company near you - give them a ring.
We pay $3CDN/drive and receive a certificate of destruction with the serial number and date.

I need to switch to a shredder that does this.
They will shred tapes, but apparently a client put platters (or drives) in once and their truck caught on fire. So they now forbid it.

The service my client uses specifies that the HDD shredding has to be first or last stop of the day do to fire concerns.

Winding my way through upgrading everyone here to SSDs and Windows 10 before the deadline. Decided to wait until the last two weeks like the procrastinator I am.
Going swimmingly so far. Not one comment. Everyone is like ... what is different, oh and I LOVE these pictures!

I wish I had users who wanted Win 10. We have like 1 machine for testing, that's it. Our devs (and management) are convinced that 7 is the greatest OS of all time (or the only one that will work with our dev environment).

We are pretty much all over to Windows 10, have been for most of a year now. Some machines made the tradition like ten months ago.
