I wonder if it is related to this https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Realtek_8169_driver_problem Could it be the network drivers hanging it all up? Perhaps disable the NIC in the bios and see if you're able to get past that?

 or booting with brokenmodules=r8169

Running a LiveUSB works just fine for me.

@DustinB3403 WTF It doens't even "kind of" boot here!!

@scottalanmiller said in Linux Installation Issues: @DustinB3403 WTF It doens't even "kind of" boot here!! I used UnetBootin to create my liveUSB, from there did a direct download of Mint 18 64 bit (on windows 10) Rebooted, hit ESC to get to the boot selection screen, chose my USB and was up in a minute or so.

Standard approach, should work with your system Scott. Maybe compare your UEFI/BIOS settings with @DustinB3403

It actually took me a bit longer, I had to figure out what the boot selection key was on this beast.
-
You left SecureBoot on and everything? No changes?

OK booting back into Windows, I have some things I have to finish there.

You going to move to Linux on that beast for day to day use? IDK just yet, I might dual boot it. But i'll have to setup a partition. If all of my games work on it, then sure. Why not.
-
@scottalanmiller have you done any sort of partitioning on this system yet?
-
@DustinB3403 said in Linux Installation Issues: @scottalanmiller have you done any sort of partitioning on this system yet? It comes partitioned. What are you actually asking? The drives are clearly not a factor, the kernel is not loaded.
