Terrible Internet issues this morning. Everything is struggling to load. Websites take forever, HipChat can't load at all.

@scottalanmiller This is why I like Google Voice... Even if my phone takes a swim, I can still be reached via calls and text... as long as I have a laptop near by.

I still have that with normal calling. Call my house number (a local Upstate NY number) and it will always reach me. Don't need Google Voice for that feature. I had that before Google Voice was around 🙂

The recent OwnCloud update fixed my webdav issues I had with Windows Explorer... except now I can't access the webdav interface via a web browser. The website still works fine though so really no functionality is lost.

I think he has a PBX that is hosted that routes to his computer via SIP or something.

I agree, which is why I don't use Google Voice 🙂 I have been full VoIP for over a decade.

Yup, hosted PBX. I get all the features of a big company including extensions for free for everyone in the family, four concurrent lines, can use it anywhere in the world but appear like I am still in the US, video calls, etc.

Right now, I am reeling at the fact that the receptionist here showed up at noon, hung around for 30-40 minutes, and is now currently at lunch. Whose {bleep} do you have to {bleep} to be able to show up late, look for other jobs on company computers, watch trash TV all day (on same said company computers), and still get an hour lunch when you arrive at noon???

A lot of things over the years. FreePBX right now.

Not sure but clearly you picked the wrong [bleep] to [bleep].

I don't travel near that much, but I've always liked the idea of setting up a PBX for the house. How much does the 4 "phone lines" run you a month?

I'm told I am on a grandfathered plan but I think that there are cheaper ones available now. I'm paying $11/mo for unlimited incoming minutes (that four concurrent lines can handle) and pay per minute, but dirt cheap, for outgoing. So my family in the US can call us, unlimited, anytime that they want for the PSTN. And people like my dad can get an extension on the system and call us unlimited via an internal phone, no need to make a call over the PSTN at all.

Where are you hosting this, and how much is that running? And what are you using for a smartphone client? I'm assuming you don't want to be teathered to a PC/laptop to make/receive calls.

@scottalanmiller So basically "internal" family members would just use a Softphone / mobile app to call you?

I bet you are hosting it with C@C ^H^H^H Digital Ocean, aren't you? 😉

It's on RS. Any SIP client will work. I'm using Linphone on my phone. Works fine. I can have a desk phone too, of which I have a few. Those can be handy when you actually have a house.
