Private Group on ML
-
I would like something like Spicy Peppers for ML. I think it would be good for @thanksajdotcom and other members. Sometimes I want to ask questions that are related to specific clients or policies, but I am afraid to do so since everything is public.
What does everyone think?
-
Plus making a post requirement for such a group may encourage more non regular users to post to reach that goal.
-
I'm fairly certain @Minion-Queen doesn't want that. Keeping everything open was one of the Goals. having a spicy peppers caused some major blow up over there.
-
Personally, if I wanted to share something like that, I would not want someone to get into just based on E_points, what kind of trust is that?
Besides, it creates a culture which is not great. The elite and the not elite. Surely keep it to private chat anyway?

I find them annoying and ranking users just a way for people to have a competition about nothing.

I would hope this isn't a trash talking group like SP used to be. It seems like everyone here is fairly open
-
Maybe @thanksajdotcom just needs a private locked down wordpress site to post his rants.
-
Ok so maybe a group based on posting is a bad idea, but how about an optional group to discuss topics such as clients, policies, and etc.

Partly because we all know what we say can be read by anyone.

I do know that is what http://mangolassi.it/category/8/it-business was somewhat made for. Clients could still be dangerous even closed. anyone can screenshot.

Specifically regarding issues with a client, I'd probably direct message someone I trusted privately. I'd never post it on any kind of private forum. I'd keep it as 1 to 1 contact always.
Narrows the list of people who can talk to the client behind my back to 1.

From what I know, the idea behind ML is to keep it as open as possible. But some self moderation and consideration for others is expected.
I'm pretty sure that @Minion-Queen wants to keep ML as open as possible. With the idea that all can learn from what we have run into.

Yep. That was the whole goal I am pretty sure. It just makes people bitter otherwise.
-
@thecreativeone91 and @g.jacobse are right. We want to keep things very open here (as many have found out even the private groups aren't all that private).
If you would like to ask for help on a specific issue please feel free to reach out via Chat or even via email to me. I can help you connect with the right person from either my team or others on the community that have appropriate experience in that area.

It would be really cool is nodeBB had a group chat feature.

Looks like it's been requested: https://community.nodebb.org/topic/2330/group-chat/2

This whole thing is a group chat. We post so fast what's the difference
-
I'll try to look but there were some early threads on this. Keeping from having private groups was actually a day one goal. The private groups elsewhere have led to some pretty bad things. While they sound great at a high level, they introduce some serious problems. We are very lucky that we got a chance to watch some of the bad things that could happen. While it leaves us with some lack of features, it also protects against some things too.
It's not an indictment of sites that use it. When others introduced it I thought that it sounded great too. It's a nice idea. But how to make it really work in a healthy way for a community is something that we've never seen figured out.

Cool, that would be a great feature just for this type of occasion. Although that could get fairly clique-y.
