AWS entering the NAS market

Amazon has set its sights firmly on enterprise storage vendors such as Dell and Seagate with the launch of a new storage service that provides a common file system for multiple EC2 virtual machines on Amazon Web Services.
Amazon Elastic File System (EFS) will be available later this year and represents the company’s first foray into the network attached storage (NAS) market.

That's awesome. Someone had to do this. Such an incredibly obvious product to offer.

Important to note..... this is NFSv4 only. So this is NAS for the UNIX world, which is amazing, but not NAS for the Windows world.

Server 2012 or better. 2008 can do NFS, but I don't think it does it natively, or at least not easy.

Famously doesn't work well. It is SFU 3.5 rebranded. Part of Xenix from eons ago.

Windows 7/2008 do NFS natively its just not installed under windows features by default. Never used it though.

It's not native. It's a Microsoft "made" add on. It's a product that they bought and never really supported. It has a handy "role" installer, yes, but the product isn't really a part of Windows in any way.
