Hate to think they need to go the way of Apple, but maybe they really need to go the way of Apple and test all of these things before they can be released into the store.

It's hard to tell how much google is spying on chrome users anyway, and since Chromium is open source but Chrome itself isn't we may never know. There are of course things like Iron Browser made from Chromium.

Then I need check and double check my tech. I've got Chrome on everything I have.

There is a factor of 'nice' that goes along with being open and not having any testing. But there are some very good reasons to HAVE testing.

I have a guy in my social circle who recently moved from Android to iPhone. He's been on a tear about how everything just works.
Sometimes the idea that a single entity can make everything just work together is really appealing. But at what cost is what I always come back to.

I moved to Android from iPhone because I can get a lot of apps that I can't and iOS and iOS only allows one browser. I do miss the fact that the native mail app on iOS can alert for all folders in exchange activesync. I would like Windows phone to get better and more apps (and support vpn's besides IKEv2) mainly because I still don't trust android because of google's involvement.

I had Android for the longest time, switched to IPhone, had it for 2 years and as soon as the 2 years was up I went back to Android. Just wasn't an Apple fan.
Yes I have an IPod and an IPad. Just couldn't get into the IPhone.

I had an iPad but sold it. Phones are 5"+ now days. If I need something bigger I likely want a full on OS, otherwise I can do most things on my phone.
