I run an edgerouter lite and Unifi APs. Been that way for a long time with zero issues. I plan on upgrading to the ER4 one of these days.
Thanks. Ive been wanting to try them at home.

@jmoore I have 1 AC-Lite in the house and 1 AC-Lite in my shop. Works great. I also segregated my SSIDs for the normal network and for ioT stuff. It is fairly easy to create VLANs on the edgerouter and firewall rules.

Ok cool. I look forward to trying them out. Will be fun. I'll see if I can find those ap's or something close. I have a small house so probably just need 1 currently. I hope to convert garage into a shop myself at some point though.

Unifi APs are the only Ubiquiti option, so not any choices to really make there.
Unifi has newer firewalls in that line that have a new OS, haven't seen it yet to know if it's better than what's on the USG (which mostly just sucks).
The USG should be able to handle 1 Gb as long as you aren't doing any filtering/QOSing, if yes, then you'll need more processing power.
Part of the issue is that I cant tell whats newer or older on their product page. I looked at specs and picked best cpu/memory option that has poe and thats what looks like the best. I could be way off. Never ordered from them before.
yeah, I heard ya, but in general that part doesn't really matter, as you've already done, it's more about getting the cpu needed for your end goal.

Well Im sure i dont need all that but I like toys to play with and I look at it as future proofing lol.
Planning on:
Edgerouter 6p
Edgeswitch 8
Unifi Ap ProDoes that seem like a solid combo? any reason I shouldn't?

ER-6 and AP Pro could be over kill, future proofing isn't worth the dollars, unless you know you're upgrading to something higher than you have now for sure in like 6 months, chances are much more likely you'll use this for several years and new equipment will be out that you'd likely rather go to.... that said, it's good stuff.
-
@Dashrender Ok thanks for the advice. Im looking for just a bit of overkill. I would like to upgrade more equipment in future so want this to be my backbone.

I want to play with the UDM, it has the new Unifi firewall interface... very curious how it's different from USG.

@Dashrender Ooh taking a look at that. I dont need it but its interesting!

Agreed - we talked about here a few weeks ago... the new interface is the big thing I'm interested in.. but I"m also running a USG at home and considering moving to 1 Gb service at home and will need to upgrade my router...
but discussion back then Scott was like - who would want that? -
@Dashrender I'm sure it works just fine. Sometimes you don't know its subtleties until you try it too.

lovely, looks like PCM lost my account info

they were bought by insight

Yeah I see that. So they require a PO and this is just personal. Do I have any options to buy from them like I have before or am I just stuck?

Primarily, new processor.

WTF
Do you have any idea why you are doing? Why would you get a router with 6 ports? It is a router not a switch. It needs a WAN port and a LAN port. Maybe an extra WAN if you have multiple internet services. You use VLAN to your switches for anything else.
All EdgeMax devices can handle wire speed throughput if all the traffic is offloaded from the CPU. But things like QoS and a few other tasks cannot be offloaded.
The ER4 is the best thing in the EdgeMax line for most. The ERL should never be considered if you have > 50 mbps and need to use the router for QoS (which you should).
I have never been able to test an ER4 with QoS enabled on a circuit faster than 200mbps. But at least up to that point it was still getting full service speed.
