Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider
-
I have a non profit that is in the beginning stages of moving to Office 365 with Microsoft hosted Exchange.
I was sent an e-mail from a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider asking to follow a link to confirm they will be the chosen Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider.
I wanted to know the extents that this move would tie the Non Profit to the Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider and discovered that it's a pretty tight knot with the inability to transfer Office 365 licensing to another Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider.
From Microsoft:
It is not currently possible to change partners for Cloud Solution Provider subscriptions for Office 365, Enterprise Mobility Suite, or Microsoft Dynamics CRM subscriptions.
Am I understanding this correctly?
The reason I am even exploring this is because the provider Microsoft their way is not real bright......

the whole purpose of the program is to lock them in. So my guess is that it will be hard to transfer. We used to be one of those providers and dropped it. Basically anyone with O365 already is locked to their provider, it's basically an MS reward to the provider for landing the deal.

So best to pick a provider you are more comfortable with, eh?
I always hear good things about Tech Soup, any one used them before?

Almost everyone has, i think. They are huge for non-profits.

Why use one at all? I thought the benefits of using a solution provider were all but gone?
The non-profit licenses are dirt cheap directly from MS - at least they were 4 years ago when I setup a non-profit back then.

For non-profit it is required.

We have moved many clients from other CSPs without needed to migrate anything: It was just an administrative thing, no lock-in. There was just one client that needed a full migration using BitTitan, but it was a special case involving a merge. On the other hand, once the client accepts the link we are given management access to their tenant and we are able to perform many administrative tasks on behalf of the client.

I read that the tenant can see the licenses, but not the subscription. Does that sound right? Can you comment on that?

I am an indirect CSP but I do not handle any non-profit organization.
My customers can see the subscription but they cannot change the licenses assigned to it from the Office 365 Admin portal; they need to request the addition/subtraction to my company or use the portal of my direct CSP. They can request the cancellation of a subscription but we need to authorize it.The client is able to have subscriptions with more than one reseller and directly with Microsoft.

Thanks. That clarifies some worries we had about being trapped with a bad CSP.
