Thanks to everyone who chimed in. I got my new car last night. Financed at 72 months at 1.9% and put down 3K on my credit card (which will be paid in full before any interest), with 1.5% cash back and a couple grand via check. Side note... Found out my credit score was 847!

@wrx7m just curious, to you, what sets the WRX STI apart from the rest of the cars in that price range? It seems like a nice car, but I've not owned one like that.

Yeah, what the others have said. It is a car for people who like driving. It is also very reliable and very customizable. There are tons of aftermarket products and support for it. You can add some exhaust and intake bolt on parts and get an ECU tune by a pro and easyily get 30% more HP and torque without affecting reliability. My current car has 350ish HP/Torque to the wheels and I am almost to 143K miles and it is 12 years old.

Subarus are also stupid reliable. Most of my friends who are Subaru fanatics have vehicles that are well in to the 300K mile range and still going with very little maintenance outside of an oil/fluid change.

Where can I get one of these "reliable" Subarus? Got an '06 Outback a little while back (purchased from the original owners, older couple, all maintenance records, blah blah blah), and I have spent a FUCKING FORTUNE just trying to keep it running. When it works, it is great, but that has not really been often enough for my taste.

What did you have to do to it?

Transmission cooler lines, total brake job (rotors, caliper, all of it), ignition coils (practically inaccessible on the flat 6, requires much disassembly), ball joint on one side, wheel bearings in the front, probably some other shit too. Some of the work I could have done myself, but I don't have the tools and equipment to do it safely.

@wrx7m was around 140k when I got it. Closer to 190 now (I drive a lot).

I won't quite be ready for that when next I car shop. Probably the time after that though.

But still, maintenance, insurance. That kind of stuff. I can Lyft/Uber for most things. And rent for others.
