Birthday Cake

@NetworkNerd 's sister always makes our daughter's birthday cakes for her because, well, she's talented. This year Kate asked for a Jake and the Neverland Pirates cake...and Karyn delivered as usual! Just thought I'd share. CAKE CAKE 2

That is amazing!

That really is amazing, our daughter would so love that! She is a Jake and the Neverland Pirates addict.
-
That is a sweet cake!

@scottalanmiller Kate used to not watch it....she said it was a "boy cartoon" with a scrunched up icky face. The last few months though something changed and she loves it now. I think it happened after that newest Tinkerbell pirate movie.

We were just discussing how our girls miss all the peer pressure since they do not go to school and see other kids all day long. They get to be kids so much more and watch more educational stuff and less "entertainment" stuff because they don't have other kids telling them that things are "for boy" or "too young" or "not cool" or whatever. Liesl is six this month and is crazy excited for the new season of Dora. If she was in school, that show would probably be considered too young and she'd be made not to like it because the other kids do not. But since she is home with us, she is free to be a kid and enjoy what she enjoys.

My daughters have watched Jake for almost a year now. When The Pirate Fairy came out, and hook did his reveal my 6yo was all OMG! that is Captain Hook! Then she got this look on her face and asked me where his hook was. Then of course there was Mr. Smee in the credits picking him up.
Think it will be time to watch the original Disney version sometime soon.

My kids rarely watch the original, but they do have it and have seen it. The older one just watched Hook recently too. It is on Netflix or Amazon VOD now.

Yeah, I'm sure once Kate hits kindergarten we will see more of that pressure happening. Right now, she sort of does what she wants. But she's always been super girly and made determinations about certain shows that she deemed boy shows. She even busted out an episode of Caillou on me yesterday and I nearly moved out. I thought we were done with that junk. -
My girls routinely go to really old stuff. They don't do it often, but they keep all of the old stuff in rotation.
