freeFTPd
freeFTPd is a FTP/FTPS/SFTP server that enables user to access remote files over TCP/IP network such as Internet. Unlike FTP, FTPS and SFTP protocols provide security and strong encryption of data - great for insecure network.
Very easy and works well.

What about freeFTPd do you feel is nicer than the one built into Windows, which is the same one from Linux?

Nothing has been built into Windows until this year.

@jaredbusch So then it's not in 2012 R2 either?

Built in? Not to my knowledge. OpenSSH on Widows was not around when 2012 R2 was released

Not built in until 2016. But Microsoft made it for 2012 R2, it's just a free Microsoft provided component rather than built in.

Same with Windows 10. It was not built in until 1803. I was an add on from 1703 (I think)

Windows has always been platform where third party software were better:
AV = ESET is better
Media Player = VLC is king
Browser= no need to comment
Task Manager = Only starting from Win 10 it began usable but process hacker is better
File Indexer = Everything
File Copy = TeraCopyPrior to Win 10 it gave always the developers the means freely, and they developed stuff better than MS. So that is my philosophy. Besides third party free stuff works usually on all Windows platforms.

You are seriously suggesting that a third party makes an SSH better than OpenSSH?
This is the same one used by IBM, Red Hat, Apple, Suse, Ubuntu, FreeBSD, even OpenBSD. You can't really be suggesting that some little unknown SSH implementation is going to compete with the single most agreed upon product in the industry that also happens to be open source?
If "I don't trust the software Microsoft chooses" is the sole reason for paying for extra software, that's a really bad process.

I've had the misfortune of dealing with ESET and I can tell you, I don't agree with you in the least. We won't even let ESET in the shop, we literally don't trust the company. And it's reliability was terrible compared to Defender. Worst I've ever dealt with.
