MFP/Printers - what brand do you like?
-
I'm looking at replacing my aging fleet of printers.
So far we've looked at Canon and Kyocera, still waiting to hear from Konica and Ricoh.
Who do you like, dislike, and why?
We had a Toshiba ages ago - and it was horrible, problems from day one. Maintenance was onsite weekly, and the machine was down at least 2 hrs a week.
Replaced with a Konica, it's been a near dream for 8 years. It breaks down less than once a month.
We also have 7 Lanier (Ricoh) desktop MFPs, they have been robust and well within acceptable about of issues and down time.
-
Our Richoh printers have been great for us. We have around 15 mfp's around campus. They have needed virtually no support due to anything breaking down. A couple needed to be reconfigured due to changing departments but that is really it.

Things break, paper jams.. fine, as long as it's not weekly. There are a ton of moving parts in MFPs... so I'm not upset when it occasionally breaks down, but occasional is the key!

We have Sharp units here. We have a managed print services contract with a local place and with the amount of printing we do the repair guy is out every two weeks just to make sure everything is in working order. But the people who use them don't have any issues with them. We had a Kyocera and a Canon before and they seemed to break down for no reason.

Some info in this thread, as well.

We've been happy with our Konica Minolta machines, but are going to take a stab at HP this next go around.

We have HP and Sharp here.
-
About 20 HP Laserjet and 1 Kyocera MFC here.
-
We have HP here.
Over the years, the printer drivers have become worse especially when trying to print an envelope. Plus, they keep adding more plastic parts so more they tend to break faster.
I was thinking about switching to something else this next go around.

Hopefully (for me) they are using all their energy on their new copier line!

I'm just rooting for something that doesn't get paper jams once a week (that is after a cleaning and maintenance kit) with a decent printer driver and envelope printer.

Konica Copier/MFP has been great - not 100% jamless, but very infrequent. The same goes for our Lanier/Ricoh desktop MFPs.

I have had a couple Ricoh Aficio 5200s that have turned out to be really good. Initially, one was jamming all the time, but that was fixed by a tech who discovered that someone had broken the paper tray. I was also not able to scan to a Server 2012 share via SMB, but that was fixed by a firmware update that a tech had to perform. I thought that it was weird that I wasn't able to update the firmware myself, but that was less for me to do. We have had them for over 5 years and they only need occasional service with moderate to heavy use. They are on a service contract, so I never have to deal with them.
I just got the 501SPF for our warehouse shipping/receiving department who are heavy copy users. They kept going through the brother 8000 and 9000 series MFPs every 6 to 9 months. There is also a ton of dust in the warehouse, so that never helps longevity.
For the lighter use areas, like workgroup and individual offices, I have been deploying the HP M477fdn for color or M426fdn for monochrome. I have only had one issue with the M477fdn, and it was fixed by replacing the toner cart.

This seems to be the case with all of the MFPs - they basically require you to have a support agreement with someone who is on the inside with the particular manufacturer. It's very frustrating!

I will look into those. Some of our printers are long in the tooth and definitely need replacing.

We own all of our printers/MFPs. We are going to be able to replace them all with new gear (on lease) for less than what we pay today in managed print services/toner... current monthly bill is around $750, current bid from Kyocera is $575 for 1 Large MFP, and 7 desktop MFPs.

I am interested in leasing just based on the time-waster it is to support printers.

Is the $575 per month? Do they supply anything like toner?

They supply support, labor, parts and toner. We supply power and paper.
-
@dashrender Are they nation-wide?
