Yeah, seems like they are fine in general, I used them a bit in Europe, and they know about patching and stuff. Not like someone random and non-technical like GE or Philips. I'd rather a tech company adding lights, than a light company adding tech.

And the no-hub approach is nice.

        WTF 9K?

I use (non smart) 5K LED lights in our house and the shit is white as hell.

oh nice.. requires "secure" wifi. obviously it probably only means it will not use an open WiFi and we all know security is relative. but still.

Yeah, the features all "seem" pretty positive. Real world testing seems to be needed.

Has anyone looked at or used TP-Link Kasa smart home gear? Wondering how good it is, how the apps work. Works with Alexa, which is a requirement for us. Seems like a good value.

I use them extensively throughout my house with Alexa. I have 10 of the HS200 and 8 of the HS100 and HS105 plugs. They only work on 2.4Ghz wifi. Have had the odd random disconnect but they're pretty easy to reconnect.

Only thing is that if you use Ubiquity AC access points, you'll need to log into the Unify manager to disable 5Ghz band otherwise they're a bitch to connect.

Why not create a separate 2.4 and 5GHz ssid instead of disabling it?

@black3dynamite Already maxed out at 4 SSIDs lol. At least, for now. In a couple months, I will be able to free one up and use it for those devices.

This is nice. I've got some TP-Link consumer grade stuff. This might be a project I need to look into.

Maybe it's a good thing I got a Pro at home, sounds like I'll need a bunch of networks eventually.

Unifi has a limit of 4 SSIDs so even with a Pro device you have that limit. It is a limit of the software.

As for TP-LInk, I have always been a fan of their managed switches as they work well and when in need to buy switches in a pinch, I buy them from Microcenter same day, although now Microcenter sells Ubiquiti now.
