New TLD .tokyo is being offered

Just noticed an ad when reading the news this morning. It was offering the .tokyo TLD for 920¥ per year (about $9). I did not expect to see custom TLD available for that price yet. Just surprised me.

Are they going to do this for every city now? This seems like it is going to open the floodgates for incredibly specific TLDs.

Well the cost for a custom TLD is significant. So I would not expect everyone to do it. Only those that will be easily resell able for the registrant to make back their investment plus profit.
