Thanks for all the info. I just have a consumer EnGenius at home and though i havent had a single issue it isn't business grade and I want to start learning more business equiipment and i don't mind investing in myself to learn though i thinik my current router was more expensive than the Edge lite.
I'm sure you will, but wanted to have you keep in mind that these edgerouters have no wifi capabilities in them. So you will either need to turn your current engenious router into just a wireless bridge or purchase a UAP and a PoE injector to power both units.
-
@nerdydad Ok thanks I did not know that so I will just put current one in bridge mode
-
@scottalanmiller That is exactly why i wanted to learn something like this so it will translate a little to other products. At those prices there is no reason not to just buy one.

It's a great way to learn "how things are done" for sure. Will give you a lot more confidence looking at other solutions and is directly applicable to a huge amount of the SMB market where the Ubiquiti gear is the most broadly applicable.

You can get a UAP for ~ $60. The UAP-AC-LITE is ~ $80
So it i not that much to buy an access point and a router.

All the UAP come with power injectors.

I've been using an ERL at home for a while and have them deployed at several business. Zero complaints and I recommend them all the time.

I wish I could use it at home. I'm on Bell Canada ftth and they use a different vlan for iptv and internet. All of the online guides I've seen haven't been able to get me to use my ERL and Bell won't give up which VLANs they use.
-
@nashbrydges seems like they would be able to put their equipment in bridge mode for you.

They refuse to let that happen too. They tell me that if in bridge mode, the iptv will fail. WHat I really wanted was for them to enable the second network connection on the ONT but they won't do that either. sigh. I'd switch to another provider if I wasn't already adicted to the Gb speed.
-
@nashbrydges I'd probably live with it too to have Gb speed.

No, that is not how that works. Similar services are the same way, such as google fiber TV .

Sadly not yet, at least not that my Google-fu has allowed me to find.

I am a bit amazed because it should only take a mirrored switch port and wireshark to find VLAN tags.

This was my thinking as I was reading the posts. This is /should be pretty easy to figure out.
